David Hamilton SS | BOS
Red Sox's David Hamilton: Set to travel with Red Sox
Hamilton is expected to join the Red Sox after Trevor Story injured his left shoulder Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Story left Friday's game in the top of the fourth inning after landing on his left shoulder awkwardly while attempting a diving grab. Hamilton started the season with Triple-A Worcester and has gone 3-for-18 with two home runs and two RBI. If Story is placed on injured list, Hamilton would provide depth at shortstop behind Pablo Reyes.

Ernie Clement SS | TOR
Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Clubs first homer of season
Clement went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Yankees.
Entering the game as a pinch hitter for Cavan Biggio in the top of the seventh inning, Clement broke open a 0-0 tie by driving a Caleb Ferguson fastball over the fence in left field. It was the 28-year-old infielder's first long ball and first RBI of the season, but he's had a solid start to the campaign, going 5-for-17 (.294) with three runs scored and only one strikeout. Clement's hit tool, defensive versatility and developing power -- he slugged 11 homers with a .196 ISO in 320 plate appearances for Triple-A Buffalo last year -- could allow him to carve out a much larger role than expected on a Toronto roster that lacks full-time starters at second base and third base.

Darell Hernaiz SS | ATH
Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Retreats to bench Saturday
Hernaiz will not be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Tigers.
Hernaiz has yet to record a hit this season, going 0-for-9 with four strikeouts. His start against lefty Tarik Skubal on Friday was just his second start in the A's last six games.

Pablo Reyes RF | NYM
Red Sox's Pablo Reyes: Replacement at short
Reyes entered Friday's game in the fourth inning after Trevor Story left with a shoulder injury, finishing 0-for-2 with a walk.
Story's injury appears to be a significant one, and an MRI on Saturday should confirm the severity. It's unclear if Reyes, a journeyman infielder with his fourth team in six years, will be the solution at short if Story lands on the injured list. The Red Sox have options, including moving Ceddanne Rafaela from center to short, where he has 71 starts while in the minors. Vaughn Grissom (groin), who is on the injured list, has played shortstop in the the past. David Hamilton, who made his major-league debut in 2023, could be an option.

Josh H. Smith SS | TEX
Rangers' Josh Smith: Moves back to third base
Smith started at third base and went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 10-2 win over the Astros.
Smith was back at third base after filling in at shortstop Wednesday, when Corey Seager served as the designated hitter. When not giving Seager a break at short, the lefty-hitting Smith is expected to start at third base against right-handers while Josh Jung (wrist) is sidelined for the next 6-to-8 weeks. Smith has hit safely in three straight games, going 4-for-10 with a walk, two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.

Amed Rosario SS | NYY
Rays' Amed Rosario: Snaps hitless streak
Rosario went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored Friday against the Rockies.
Rosario has gotten inconsistent playing time early this season, though he's been in the lineup in five of the Rays' last six games. He entered the game with only two hits across his last 17 at-bats, but positively, he didn't strike out in that span. Rosario managed to snap out of his brief slump, tallying a double in the first inning followed by a pair of singles.

Trevor Story SS | BOS
Red Sox's Trevor Story: Leaves with shoulder injury
Story had to leave Friday's game against the Angels after injuring his left shoulder, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Story landed awkwardly on his shoulder after attempting to make a diving stop on a groundball in the top of the fourth inning. He looked to be in a considerable amount of pain as he walked off the field, and a trip to the injured list may be coming for the 31-year-old infielder. Should Story have to sit out for an extended period of time, Pablo Reyes could take on most of the work at shortstop, though Ceddanne Rafaela might see more work on the infield and Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) may also be a factor once he returns from the IL.

Diego Castillo 3B | MIN
Twins' Diego Castillo: Traded to Minnesota
The Twins acquired Castillo from the Orioles on Friday in exchange for cash consideration, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Castillo will provide some quality infield organizational depth with Royce Lewis (quad) out, as he's capable of playing multiple infield positions as well as left field. The 26-year-old has now been in six different organizations since December, spending much of the offseason bouncing around via waivers. He will not be on the Twins' 40-man roster after being outrighted by the Orioles back in February.

Carlos Correa SS | HOU
Twins' Carlos Correa: Three hits Thursday
Correa went 3-for-4 with a double in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Cleveland.
Correa had gone just 1-for-11 in his previous four games after racking up three hits Opening Day. With three more hits Thursday, Correa's now slashing a healthy .368/.520/.474 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and three RBI through 25 plate appearances.

Bobby Witt SS | KC
Royals' Bobby Witt: Swipes second bag
Witt went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Orioles.
The 23-year-old shortstop continued his blistering start to the season. Witt has recorded multiple hits in four of the Royals' first six games, batting .400 (10-for-25) with four doubles, a triple, two homers, two steals, two RBI and six runs scored. Ronald Acuna was in uncharted territory last year with his 40-70 campaign, but if any other hitter in baseball has the talent to approach those numbers, it might be Witt.
