  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Red Sox's Pablo Reyes: Retains starting role in infield

Reyes will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Though he lost hold of regular playing time at shortstop when Trevor Story returned from the 60-day injured list Aug. 8, Reyes has been able to retain an everyday role at the other middle-infield spot ahead of Luis Urias. Reyes will stick in the lineup for a 10th consecutive game Wednesday after going 12-for-32 (.375 average) with one home run, three doubles, one stolen base, four RBI and six runs over the previous nine contests.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Sitting Wednesday due to soreness

Correa's absence from the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers is a result of him feeling sore after he legged out an infield single in the sixth inning of Tuesday's 5-3 win, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Correa didn't appear to be in too much pain after he reached first on the base hit, as he was able to stay in the game and play the full nine innings. The Twins haven't provided much clarity on the source of Correa's soreness, but the injury could be related to his foot, given that he's been playing through plantar fasciitis for multiple months. Regardless, Correa isn't believed to be dealing with anything significant, and the Twins believe that after a maintenance day Wednesday followed by a team off day Thursday, the 28-year-old will be good to go for Friday's series opener versus the Pirates.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Resting again Wednesday

Correa is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

The Twins haven't indicated that Correa is nursing an injury, but he'll remain on the bench for the second time in three games after he previously received a day off in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Phillies. Correa returned to the lineup for Tuesday's 5-3 win over Detroit and went 1-for-3 with a run scored, but he'll give way to Kyle Farmer at shortstop in the day game after a night game.

  • Jose Tena 3B | WAS

Guardians' Jose Tena: Sent down to Triple-A

Tena was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Tena went 2-for-8 at the plate during his brief first stint in the majors. He's being sent out to make room for Tyler Freeman's (shoulder) return from the 10-day injured list.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Suspension decision coming Thursday

Anderson's (neck) appeal for his six-game suspension is scheduled to be heard Thursday, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.

Unless Anderson drops his appeal or agrees to a settlement Wednesday, he'll be eligible to play in the White Sox's series finale with the Cubs, but he appears set to miss time when the South Siders open their three-game series in Colorado on Friday. Anderson has already missed Chicago's last two games, with his first absence being for rest purposes and the second one being the result of a stiff neck. For whatever length of time Anderson misses due to the injury or suspension, Elvis Andrus is expected to step in as Chicago's primary shortstop.

  • Bobby Witt SS | KC

Royals' Bobby Witt: Launches grand slam

Witt went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss to Seattle.

Witt played a big role in the Royals' seven-run comeback, taking Emerson Hancock yard for a grand slam in the fifth inning to plate Matt Beaty, Kyle Isbel and Maikel Garcia. The long ball was Witt's 23rd of the season and his third in the last four games. He's now hit safely in 15 of his last 16 appearances, a stretch in which he's batting .441 with seven homers, 25 RBI, 15 runs scored and six steals.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Rangers' Corey Seager: Clobbers pair of home runs

Seager went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, a solo homer and two additional RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Angels.

Seager posted his best game of 2023 on Tuesday, securing his first multi-homer game of the campaign and tying his season high in RBI. The outing continued a power surge for the left-handed shortstop, who's blasted 12 long balls across his last 22 games and is now tied for the second-most homers at the position.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

White Sox's Tim Anderson: Scratched Tuesday

Anderson was scratched from the White Sox's lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Cubs due to neck stiffness, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Anderson had previously missed two games last week due to a bruised forearm, and he will now sit out Tuesday's contest as a result of another injury. Elvis Andrus will take over at shortstop, allowing Zach Remillard to enter the lineup at second base. Anderson should be considered day-to-day going forward.

  • J.P. Crawford SS | SEA

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Return date uncertain

Crawford may not return from the 7-day concussion IL when eligible Thursday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

The good news is that Crawford is trending in the right direction. However, manager Scott Servais said there is still some uncertainty on whether the 28-year-old shortstop will rejoin the team immediately once he's eligible. A better picture will emerge over the next couple of days, but Crawford's absence likely wouldn't extend more than a few days past Thursday if need be.

  • Bo Bichette 3B | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Beginning rehab assignment

Bichette (knee) will open his rehab assignment as Triple-A Buffalo's designated hitter Tuesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

The 25-year-old won't immediately play the field with Buffalo but should be at shortstop Wednesday or Thursday. Bichette is only expected to play in a couple games at Triple-A before potentially rejoining the Blue Jays for Friday's series opener at Cincinnati.
