Astros general manager Dana Brown said that Pena (rib) could resume baseball activities this weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Pena has been resting for the past few days after landing on the 10-day injured list Monday with a small rib fracture on his left side, but it sounds like he could start ramping things up soon. A timetable for the shortstop's return could become clearer after he advances in those activities.

Correa is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

The Twins and Marlins are closing their series with a day game after a night game, so Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli likely viewed Thursday as an optimal time to give Correa a breather, after the shortstop started in each of the past 23 games. Though the oft-injured Correa has proven to be relatively durable thus far with 74 starts through the Twins' first 87 games, he's in the midst of the worst offensive season of his career, batting .259 with seven home runs, 32 runs and 29 RBI.

Duran started at third base and went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 6-0 win over the Orioles.

Duran made a second straight start at third base, where there could be additional opportunities for him in the near term in the wake of the Rangers optioning Josh Jung to the minors. Duran and Josh Smith are expected to fill the void while Jung works on his swing at Triple-A Round Rock.

Witt went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and a stolen base during Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Seattle.

Witt reached safely in all four of his plate appearances, drawing two free passes and logging two singles. He supplied the Royals' only runs in the loss and swiped a bag for a second straight night. The superstar shortstop is riding a six-game hit streak, going 11-for-25 (.440) with three doubles, eight runs scored and five RBI during that stretch.

Seager went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-0 victory over the Orioles.

That's now four homers in Seager's last six games, and he's up to 11 big flies in 55 games this year. The star shortstop was stuck in a dismal 2-for-32 skid at the plate between June 1 and June 13, but he's rediscovered his form following that dry spell. Over his last 76 plate appearances, Seager is slashing .279/.408/.590 with five long balls, four doubles and 11 RBI.

Bichette (knee) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees, but Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that the shortstop is "feeling better than he did" Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. "Hes going through a little bit more of a regular day, and the hope would be that he'd be available [off the bench] if we need him," Schneider said.

Bichette will miss out on a third consecutive start while he continues to tend to a sore right knee, but the 27-year-old appears to be trending in a positive direction and still looks on track to avoid a stint on the injured list. Ernie Clement will step in at shortstop Wednesday, but if Bichette checks out fine after his pregame workout, he could be available as a pinch hitter off the bench.

The Tigers recalled Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Though Sweeney will start at shortstop and bat ninth in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader, he's expected to operate primarily in a reserve role during his upcoming stint with the big club. Sweeney opened the season as the Tigers' everyday shortstop but began to see his playing time dwindle in early June, when Javier Baez wasn't needed as often in the outfield and began seeing more opportunities at Sweeney's expense. Before being demoted to Triple-A last Friday, Sweeney slashed just .221/.280/.314 with four home runs and two stolen bases over 225 plate appearances on the season.

Wilson (hamstring) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays.

Wilson was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 4-3 win due to a right hamstring issue and will be out of commission again for Wednesday's matinee. The Athletics are off Thursday, so Wilson will aim to return to action Friday versus the Giants for the start of a homestand.

Rocchio started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs.

Rocchio got the start against a left-hander but was removed for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning when a righty reliever entered. He was summoned from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday after the Guardians placed Gabriel Arias (ankle) on the 10-day injured list. Rocchio opened 2025 as the starting shortstop but was sent to the minors May 7 with a .165/.235/.198 line over 35 games. He'll get a chance at redemption for as long as Arias is out, but Rocchio may share shortstop with Daniel Schneemann. The position should be up for grabs, as Cleveland shortstops rank last in average (.183) and OPS (.515).

Walls went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

Walls entered the game in the seventh and led off the eighth with a base knock. He would swipe second but was stranded there with the game tied. Walls has just two hits in his last 19 at-bats and sports a .210 batting average, which is right in line with the low average he's posted throughout his five-year career. His stolen base Tuesday brought him up to 10 for the year and it's now his fourth consecutive season with double-digit thefts.
