Astros' Carlos Correa: Could play Wednesday

Correa (thumb) will be available off the bench Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Manager A.J. Hinch said the Astros were exercising precaution by holding Correa out of the starting lineup Wednesday, one day after the All-Star shortstop jammed his left thumb into a catcher's shin guard. "He's doing fine," Hinch said. "He arguably should play, but he's not." This news bodes well for Correa's availability Thursday.

  • Indians' Francisco Lindor: Earns second All-Star selection

Ramirez was chosen by the players to make his second All-Star Game appearance at next week's event in Miami.

Interestingly enough, Lindor got the vote despite having a drastically down year compared to his first two big-league seasons. His batting average and on-base percentage are significantly down from 2016, and the shortstop is on pace to log a career high in strikeouts while notching a career low in stolen bases. That said, Lindor has posted a .321/.370/.477 slash line after the All-Star break over the last two seasons, so fantasy owners have reason to remain optimistic.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Out of lineup Wednesday

Correa (thumb) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Braves, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Correa left Tuesday's game after injuring himself on a headfirst slide into home plate, and is currently dealing with a left thumb injury. Although the shortstop received clean test results from the X-rays, the team will give him the day off while Marwin Gonzalez draws the start in his stead. He should be considered day-to-day and could return to the lineup for Thursday's series opener in Toronto.

  • Jonathan Diaz SS | NYY

Yankees' Jonathan Diaz: Will try on pinstripes

Diaz was traded to the Yankees on Wednesday.

Diaz is toiling through a rough season in the minors, batting just .182/.348/.239 through 37 games, but the Yankees will bring him back after he spent all of 2016 with their Triple-A affiliate, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 32-year-old likely serves as organizational depth, as he hasn't made big-league appearance since 2015.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Hopes to play Wednesday

Correa (thumb) announced Tuesday that his injured thumb is "a little sore" but that he hopes to play Wednesday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Correa's thumb injury is proving to be a minor ailment as the young shortstop is hoping to not miss any time at all. We'll have to wait and see if manager A.J. Hinch inserts Correa into the starting lineup Wednesday or if he opts to give him a day of rest.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: X-rays on thumb come back clean

X-rays on Correa's injured left thumb came back negative Tuesday.

It seems that Correa has avoided a serious injury, as the tests on his injured left thumb revealed no structural damage. We'll simply have to wait to see if the 22-year-old is able to suit up for Wednesday's series finale against the Braves. He remains a true day-to-day case.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Diagnosed with thumb discomfort

Correa exited Tuesday's game against the Braves early with left thumb discomfort.

It initially appeared that the injury occurred to Correa's head on a headfirst slide into home plate, but it's now being revealed that it was his thumb that caused the Astros to remove their star shortstop from the game in the top of the fourth inning. With the Astros leading the Braves 7-0 at the time of his removal, it's entirely possible that it was simply a precautionary move. Correa will be listed as day-to-day for the time being.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Exits early Tuesday

Correa was removed from Tuesday's game against the Braves after appearing his injure himself on a headfirst slide into home plate, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The injury occurred when Correa slid headfirst into home plate and appeared to be tagged on the face by the opposing catcher in the top of the fourth inning. The severity of the injury is currently unknown, though that information should become available shortly. He was replaced by Marwin Gonzalez at shortstop, with Norichika Aoki taking over in left field.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Returns to lineup Tuesday

Bogaerts (groin) is starting at shortstop and batting third Tuesday against the Rangers, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.

Bogaerts is ready to return to action after missing a pair of games with a tight groin. The 24-year-old, who is slashing .314/.366/.455 with five homers and nine stolen bases in 77 games this season, will face Yu Darvish in his return to the starting lineup.

  • Ruben Tejada SS | BAL

Orioles' Ruben Tejada: Hits bench Tuesday

Tejada is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.

Relative to the norm, Tejada has heated up at the plate with five hits over the last five games, which is likely good enough to secure him the primary starting gig at shortstop for now. However, he'll still likely give way to Paul Janish a couple times each week, with Tuesday's game representing one of those occasions.
