  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Starts new streak with three-hit effort

Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 6-4 victory over the Blue Jays.

One day after seeing his 26-game hitting streak snapped, Bogaerts was right back at it with his fourth multi-hit effort in the last seven games. After generating a .395 average in May, the 23-year-old standout has picked up right where he left off and is now slashing .353/.421/.412 in his first four games of June.

  • Shawn O'Malley SS | COL

Mariners' Shawn O'Malley: Leading off Saturday

O'Malley is starting in center field and leading off Saturday against the Rangers.

He hasn't produced since joining the big league club, but he's an intriguing bargain play in daily leagues Saturday, due to the fact he's leading off and facing a lefty (Martin Perez). Nori Aoki should continue to start in center field most days while Leonys Martin (hamstring) is out.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Sees 26-game hitting streak snapped Friday

Bogaerts' 26-game hitting streak was snapped in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Blue Jays, as he only managed two walks and a run scored in three at-bats.

The young superstar's impressive stretch at the plate came to an end, but he still managed to reach safely for the 27th consecutive game by drawing a pair of free passes. Bogaerts is currently surpassing his very impressive 2015, and is slashing .343/.397/.500 despite the 0-for-3 night Friday.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Yankees' Jorge Mateo: Playing well in minors

Mateo is slashing .296/.360/.477 through 49 games with High-A Tampa.

The 20-year-old has also added five homers and 17 steals in 26 tries. Mateo -- typically a shortstop -- has been seeing some time at second base and should continue rising through the organization's minor league ranks, though the majors remain highly unlikely for at least another year.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Extends hitting streak to 26 games

Bogaerts went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a run and a strikeout against the Orioles on Thursday.

Bogaerts has done nothing but hit in the past month, and he extended his hitting streak to an impressive 26 games. The 23-year-old shortstop has hit safely in 29 of the past 30 games, going .388 with a .567 over that span.

  • Angels' Cliff Pennington: Placed on 15-day disabled list with hamstring injury

Pennington (hamstring) was placed on the 15-day DL on Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.

This is a tough development for Pennington as the veteran infielder had played just three games since returning from a hamstring injury before heading back to the DL. The Angels purchased Brendan Ryan's contract in a corresponding move Wednesday to replace Pennington up the middle. However, the Angels will likely use a combination of Johnny Giavotella and Gregorio Petit as their double play combo the majority of the time in Pennington's absence.

  • Red Sox's Xander Bogaerts: Extends hitting streak to 23 games

Bogaerts went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a walk Monday against Baltimore.

The 23-year-old shortstop possesses the longest active hitting streak with 23 games, and he's hit safely in 29 of the last 30 games. He's gone an incredible 52-for-130 (.400) over that span, and it's safe he's the hottest hitter in the majors right now. His average continues to climb, and now it sits in an impressive .354 figure.

  • Luis Sardinas SS | WAS

    Mariners' Luis Sardinas: Sitting Monday

Sardinas is out of the lineup Monday against the Padres.

After making four straight starts at shortstop, Sardinas will get the day off in favor of Shawn O'Malley.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Astros' Carlos Correa: Sluggs eight homer of season Sunday

Correa went 1-for-1 with a decisive three-run homer as a pinch hitter during Sunday's 13-inning win over the Angels.

Correa was expected to get the day off, but manager A.J. Hinch opted to give him a pinch-hit appearance, and the shortstop responded by hitting a long ball that was decisive for Houston's win. Correa has gone 5-for-38 (.135) over the past 10 games, but perhaps the home run will boost his confidence as he tries to leave an extended sophomore slump behind him.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Rays' Willy Adames: On fire at Double-A Montgomery

Adames is hitting .273/.385/.503 with six homers and six stolen bases in seven attempts over 45 games at Double-A Montgomery so far this season. The Tampa Bay Times speculates he could receive a promotion soon.

Adames, who came over in the David Price deal, will have to compete with Daniel Robertson to see who the shortstop of the future is in the organization. However, Adames profiles as the better defender, so as long as the bat continues to develop as it has this year, he's in good shape to stick at short.
