  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: On bench Sunday

Ahmed is not in the lineup Sunday against the Rockies.

Ahmed sits for just the second time all season. Ketel Marte will handle shortstop in his absence.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Back on bench

Berti is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Braves, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Berti had started six of the Marlins' previous seven games, with his spike in at-bats mostly a result of Neil Walker missing time due to hamstring and knee injuries. Walker returned to the lineup Saturday and will check in at first base again in the series finale, so Berti will retreat to a bench role while Martin Prado moves across the diamond to the hot corner.

  • Marlins' Rosell Herrera: Sits after three straight starts

Herrera is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Herrera had started each of the past three games in center field and provided the Miami offense with a nice lift, registering four hits in 11 at-bats and driving in four. Isaac Galloway will check into the starting nine in the series finale, but Herrera looks to be ahead of him on the depth chart for now.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: Knocks third homer

Ahmed went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 9-2 win over the Rockies.

Ahmed took Colorado starter Kyle Freeland deep in the second inning for his first extra-base hit in the last six games. His OPS sits at a pedestrian .724 through 133 plate appearances.

  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Smacks 11th homer

Baez went 2-for-4 with a tie-breaking solo homer in the Cubs' 6-5 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Leading off the bottom of the eighth inning in a tie game, Baez launched a homer to right field off John Brebbia that provided the winning run. The 26-year-old shortstop leads the Cubs with 11 home runs and 26 RBI and is sporting a .318/.353/.659 slash line for the season.

  • Pablo Reyes RF | SD

Pirates' Pablo Reyes: Optioned to Triple-A

Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.

Reyes was sent down after hitting just .128/.190/.128 in 42 plate appearances. Kevin Newman (finger) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Garcia: Healthy at High-A

Garcia (elbow) returned to action for High-A Daytona on Friday, going 1-for-5 with a strikeout and a run.

He exited Thursday's game with an elbow injury, but it was apparently very minor, as he was right back in there the next day.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Strong batting eye

Perdomo is hitting .234/.385/.325 in 96 plate appearances at Low-A Kane County, with 17 walks and 17 strikeouts.

Perdomo isn't hitting for power, but keep in mind that he's 19 years old at his first stop in full season ball. He also has six stolen bases in nine attempts so far.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Hitting fourth Friday

Seager is hitting cleanup against the Padres on Friday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Seager drops from second to fourth in the order for this matchup against San Diego's Eric Lauer. He'll look to get it rolling at the plate as he has just one hit in his last 24 at-bats, but the left-handed Lauer could present him with a tough matchup, as Seager is just 6-for-39 against southpaws this season.

  • Jose Barrero SS | BAL

Reds' Jose Garcia: Exits with elbow injury

Garcia exited Thursday's game for High-A Daytona with an elbow injury, Tortugas play-by-play announcer Justin Rocke reports.

He was hit by a pitch on the elbow in the first inning and did not return after a rain delay in the second inning. Garcia has not yet been placed on the injured list, so he should be considered day-to-day.
