  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Heads to bench Monday

Rojas is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Andre Fernandez of the Miami Herald reports.

Rojas is 0-for-12 over his last three contests, so he'll head to the bench for a breather. Mike Aviles is starting at shortstop in his stead.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Stays hot at plate in victory

DeJong went 3-for-5 with a run in Sunday's 13-4 win over the Reds.

The rookie opened August by going 0-for-9 over his first two games, but he's put that mini slump firmly in the rearview mirror. DeJong punished Reds pitching over the three-game series, going 6-for-14 with a home run, two RBI and two runs. Factoring in Sunday's multi-hit effort -- his second in the last three contests -- DeJong's season line is up to a solid .284/.308/.550, although his 31.3 percent strikeout rate has plenty of room for improvement.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: No timetable for hitting

Ahmed (hand) has yet to do any hitting activity and remains limited to conditioning work, Alex Simon of MLB.com reports.

Ahmed has worked on strengthening his grip again after undergoing surgery to repair his fractured right hand back in June, but he's still dealing with too much discomfort to take hacks at the plate. The shortstop isn't eligible to return from the 60-day disabled list until Aug. 28, so the lack of progress in the rehab process up to this point shouldn't be viewed as a major concern just yet. Ahmed could see semi-regular starts in the middle infield once he rejoins the big club.

  • James Nelson SS | HOU

Marlins' James Nelson: Surging at Low-A

Nelson, 19, is hitting .361 with nine RBI over his last 10 games for Low-A Greensboro.

A 15th-round pick last season, Nelson is raking during his first taste of full-season ball. He is batting .311/.356/.458 through 91 games. Nelson does not have big power or speed, and he could stand to be a bit more patient at the dish. Still, it is difficult to argue with his average, and he could move quickly up the ranks for the Marlins due to their lack of depth in their farm system.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Hits bench Sunday

Crawford is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, Jody Jackson of Fox Sports Arizona reports.

Crawford has started each of the team's previous 13 games and will be replaced in the lineup by Kelby Tomlinson as the Giants close out their weekend series against Patrick Corbin and the Diamondbacks. Crawford is in the midst of a career-worst year, as he currently holds a meager .227/.275/.366 slash line on the season.

  • Miguel Rojas SS | LAD

Marlins' Miguel Rojas: Assumes leadoff spot Sunday

Rojas will start at shortstop and lead off Sunday against the Braves, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

It's likely just a one-time appointment atop the lineup for Rojas, who will move up the batting order with Dee Gordon receiving the day off. Assuming Gordon returns to the lineup for Monday's series opener with the Nationals, look for Rojas to settle back in as the No. 8 hitter.

  • Marlins' Dee Gordon: Retreats to bench Sunday

Gordon is not in the lineup Sunday against the Braves, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

Gordon is batting .307 in 88 at-bats since the All-Star break, but he'll head to the bench for a day off after collecting just one hit in the first two games of the series. Mike Aviles will man the keystone in his place.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Cardinals' Paul DeJong: Hits 15th home run in win

DeJong went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Saturday's win over the Reds.

His long ball off Luis Castillo in the third inning put the Cardinals ahead for good. DeJong's success has made for a great story, but many remain skeptical of his approach. He had been slumping coming into the series, managing just one hit over his last five games (1-for-18), and his poor strikeout and walk rates point to further batting-average regression.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers' Corey Seager: Crushes 19th home run Saturday

Seager went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk Saturday against the Mets.

Seager left the yard for the 19th time this season to give the Dodgers a pair of insurance runs in the ninth inning of a winning effort. He continues to be a fantasy superstar, as he boasts an impressive .314/.380/.549 slash line.

  • Trevor Story SS | BOS

Rockies' Trevor Story: Out of Saturday's lineup

Story is out of Saturday's lineup against the Phillies, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.

Story is hitting just .156 with a 38.8 percent strikeout rate over his last 45 at-bats. Pat Valaika will start at shortstop and hit eighth.
