Javier Baez SS | DET
Cubs' Javier Baez: Returns to lineup Sunday
Baez is in Sunday's lineup against the Rockies.
Baez will start at third base and be batting eighth for Sunday's series finale against the Rockies at the hitter-friendly Coors Field. Over the last seven games, Baez has gone 5-for-14 with three runs scored, bringing his batting average up to .278 for the year.

Dansby Swanson SS | CHC
Braves' Dansby Swanson: Hitting leadoff Sunday
Swanson will hit leadoff in Sunday's game against the Nationals.
Swanson hit eighth in his first three big league games and went 4-for-12 (.333), so he will get a shot in the leadoff role Sunday with Ender Inciarte getting a day off. Swanson received a day off Saturday, but expect him to play regularly the rest of the way.

Nick Ahmed SS | TEX
Diamondbacks' Nick Ahmed: To have season-ending surgery
Ahmed will have season-ending surgery on his hip, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.
His hip was not responding to the cortisone shot he received, so Ahmed mad the decision to have surgery, which was the best decision for his long-term health. Ahmed has always been an all-glove shortstop and that was no different this season, as he slashed just .218/.265/.299 this season, which is down a little from his career line. Jean Segura and Chris Owings should share the duties at shortstop for the Diamondbacks over the rest of the season.

Nick Noonan SS | TEX
Padres' Nick Noonan: Optioned to Triple-A
Noonan was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
He was given a chance to take the starting shortstop job at the big league level and run with it, but a .167/.200/.167 slash line in 20 plate appearances quickly altered the Padres' plans. Alexei Ramirez figures to be the team's starting shortstop going forward.

Chris Owings SS | LAD
Diamondbacks' Chris Owings: Out of Saturday's lineup
Owings is out of the lineup Saturday in San Diego.
Phil Gosselin will start at the keystone Saturday with Jean Segura sliding over to play shortstop. Owings has been in the lineup almost every day of late, and it is a little surprising to see him sit with a lefty on the mound, but it appears to be just a standard day off.

Javier Baez SS | DET
Cubs' Javier Baez: Out of Saturday's lineup
Baez is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rockies.
The Cubs are usually able to find a spot for Baez, regardless of who is on the mound for the opposition, but when he does sit, it is usually against righties, and right-hander Jeff Hoffman is on the mound for the Rockies on Saturday. Baez has a .910 OPS against lefties this year versus a .707 OPS against right-handed pitchers. Look for him to be back in the lineup Sunday against southpaw Jorge De La Rosa.

Corey Seager SS | TEX
Dodgers' Corey Seager: Not in Saturday's lineup
Seager is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Reds.
The Reds are starting a lefty in Brandon Finnegan, but it's still odd to not see Seager in there. A reason for his absence was not immediately provided. With a pair of base knocks Friday, Seager extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he's recorded multiple hits in all but two games over that span. Chris Taylor will start at shortstop in his absence.

Dansby Swanson SS | CHC
Braves' Dansby Swanson: Out of lineup Saturday
Swanson is out of the lineup Saturday against the Nationals.
The Braves' top prospect has recorded multiple hits in two of three games to begin his major league career, but it seems manager Brian Snitker feels the 22-year-old isn't quite ready for someone like Max Scherzer, or perhaps he doesn't want to shake his confidence. Regardless, Chase d'Arnaud will get the nod at shortstop Saturday, but Swanson still figures to play on a near-everyday basis down the stretch.

Corey Seager SS | TEX
Dodgers' Corey Seager: Has pair of hits in Friday loss
Seager was one of the few Dodgers to show up offensively in Friday's 9-2 loss to the Reds, going 2-for-3 with an RBI single, two walks and a run.
The dynamic shortstop plated Rob Segedin with his seventh-inning single, which was the first run of the game for the Dodgers. Seager also scored the only other run, coming in on an A.J. Ellis groundout in the ninth. He now has a 10-game hitting streak with eight multihit efforts during the streak.

Trea Turner SS | PHI
Nationals' Trea Turner: Collects three hits in Friday's win
Turner went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Friday's win over the Braves.
The rookie is working on a nine-game hitting streak, during which he's hitting .405 (17-for-42) with 13 runs scored and five steals. Whether it's in center field or at second base or shortstop when Daniel Murphy or Danny Espinosa need a day off, Turner figures to remain a fixture atop the Nationals' order for the rest of the season.
