  • Javier Baez SS | DET

Cubs' Javier Baez: Starting at shortstop in Game 4

Baez is starting at shortstop and hitting ninth in the order for Game 4 of the NLDS.

Baez collected two hits in relief for Addison Russell during Game 3 after the starting shortstop exited the game following an injury to his ankle. With Russell still not cleared for action Tuesday, Baez will get the start at shortstop and bat ninth in the batting order. The 22-year-old has struggled against the Cardinals' Game 4 starter John Lackey -- in eight career at-bats against the veteran, Baez has not recorded a hit and has struck out four times.

  • Corey Seager SS | TEX

Dodgers INF Corey Seager not in the lineup Monday

Dodgers rookie infielder Corey Seager is not in the lineup for Monday's Game 3 of the NLDS against the Mets.

Seager started each of the first two games of the series, but went 1 for 8 with four strikeouts. Jimmy Rollins will take over at shortstop and bat second against Matt Harvey.

  • Ruben Tejada SS | BAL

Mets' Ruben Tejada: Will not need surgery

Tejada (leg) will not need to undergo surgery, Mike Vorkunov of NJ.com reports.

Tejada suffered a non-displaced fractured right fibula as a result of a hard slide by Chase Utley in Game 2 of the NLDS. Not needing surgery is definitely an encouraging sign, and the club is hopeful that he'll be ready in time for the start of next season.

  • Marlins SS Dee Gordon slams three hits in season finale

Marlins premier leadoff hitter Dee Gordon collected three hits, including a double and solo home run in the season finale Sunday against Philadelphia.

Gordon scored both runs in a loss that was a telling summation of a frustrating season. He put together a career best .333/.359/.418 slash line, taking home the National League batting crown and leading the majors with 58 steals.

  • Nationals OF Bryce Harper fine for last game of season

Nationals slugger Bryce Harper (shin) is back in the lineup for the Sunday season finale against the Mets.

Harper had a scare after missing the second leg of the Saturday doubleheader thanks to a hit-by-pitch in Game 1, but he'll tough it out and finish the season in the starting lineup. At stake for the phenom is a chance to hit the 100-RBI mark and lock up the NL batting title, where he's in a virtual tie with Dee Gordon.

  • Giants second baseman Kelby Tomlinson homers Saturday

Giants second baseman Kelby Tomlinson went 2 for 4 Saturday with a double and a solo shot, his second home run of the season.

He's finishing the season with an 8-for-16 surge including four extra-base hits over his last four games. Tomlinson will have a hard time beating out Joe Panik for a starting job in 2016, however.

  • Kyle Seager 3B | SEA

    Corey Seager SS | TEX

Mariners 3B Kyle Seager goes yard in Wednesday loss

Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager certainly made the most of his one hit Wednesday against Houston. He knocked it out of the park for a three-run homer.

Seager must have been inspired by the promotion of his brother to the Dodgers as he's been scorching hot over the last two months. Most people consider Corey Seager a better prospect than Kyle, but hitting .339 with eight homers and 10 doubles over a 32-game stretch is tough to argue with.

  • Ian Desmond CF | COL

    Trea Turner SS | PHI

Nationals SS Trea Turner cranks first career tater on Tuesday

Nationals shortstop Trea Turner got the start at second base Tuesday, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a solo shot, his first career major league home run.

The homer accounted for the team's only run of the night. With Ian Desmond nearly certain to leave as a free agent, Turner will head into spring training as the favorite to man the starting shortstop position.

  • Nick Ahmed SS | TEX

Diamondbacks SS Nick Ahmed still sidelined Tuesday

Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (back) remains out of the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies.

Tuesday's absence marks the sixth straight for Ahmed, who injured his back making a spectacular fall-away throw last week. Ahmed recently reported improvement, but it's uncertain when he may return for Arizona. Chris Owings will man short once again Tuesday with Brandon Drury at second base.

  • Marlins 2B Dee Gordon closing in on NL stolen-base crown

Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon knocked two hits, scored two runs and swiped two bases during Sunday's win over Atlanta.

The Marlins offense has finally found some consistency in September despite missing Giancarlo Stanton, and Gordon's stellar play at the top of the lineup is a large factor. The speedy second baseman has piled up 56 steals on the year, while batting a robust .332/.356/.412 with 82 runs and 43 RBI over 626 plate appearances.

Gordon is one steal behind Billy Hamilton, who is out for the year with a shoulder injury, for the major-league lead and has six games left to earn his second straight stolen base crown.
