Manager Joe Maddon said he doesn't plan on using Baez (thumb) the rest of the season, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

This isn't all too surprising, as the Cubs are essentially eliminated from the playoffs. The shortstop put together another stellar season for Chicago, slashing .281/.316/.531 with 29 home runs and 11 steals in 136 games. Nico Hoerner should continue to fill in at shortstop for Baez.

Mondesi will undergo shoulder surgery for a tear in his joint next week, a procedure which will keep him out for five or six months, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Mondesi had already been ruled out for the season, but he's now at risk of missing time at the start of next year. Opening Day is just over six months away, so the stated timeline should still see him back on the field in time for the first game of the season, but even a small setback will likely result in him opening the season on the injured list. Regardless of his exact return date, he'll come with some injury risk during draft season, as it can never be fully guaranteed that a player will perform at his pre-surgery level immediately after returning to action.

Arcia is not starting Wednesday against the Reds.

Arcia has started the past six games and gone 6-for-22 (.273) with a double and a home run over that stretch. He'll give way to Cory Spangenberg at shortstop Wednesday as the Brewers look to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Turner is not starting Wednesday against the Phillies.

Turner gets a rest after the Nationals swept a doubleheader Tuesday, clinching a playoff berth. Wilmer Difo gets the start at shortstop in his absence.

Baez (thumb) is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Pirates.

Baez was hoping to rejoin the starting lineup this week but is apparently still having issues catching throws. As such, he'll stick on the bench as Nico Hoerner picks up another start at shortstop. With Chicago's playoff hopes dwindling, there's a chance Baez doesn't return before the end of the season.

DeJong is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

DeJong will join a slew of starters on the bench Wednesday after playing all 19 innings during Tuesday's 3-2 loss, going 1-for-7 with a walk and two strikeouts. In his place, Yairo Munoz is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh.

Correa (back) said he expects to rejoin the Houston lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Mariners, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Correa was scratched ahead of Tuesday's 3-0 win after experiencing back tightness following the team flight to Seattle. The Astros' decision to hold him out was mostly for precautionary purposes, but Correa looks like he'll still be on track for steady work over the final five regular-season contests while Houston remains locked in a tight battle with the Yankees for home-field advantage in the American League postseason.

Gordon went 2-for-3 with a double in a loss to the Astros on Tuesday.

The veteran speedster was able to find some success at the plate after going 2-for-20 over his previous seven games. The multi-hit effort was Gordon's first since Sept. 13, while his two-bagger was his first hit other than a single in the last 12 contests overall.

Story went 1-for-6 with a solo home run and a pair of walks Tuesday in the Rockies' 8-5 loss to the Giants in 16 innings.

Story struck out in his first two plate appearances versus Madison Bumgarner, but he was able to touch up the Giants' ace for his 34th long ball of the season in the fifth inning. The Rockies have been using Story primarily in the leadoff spot since late August, but the move hasn't resulted in any heightened involvement on the bases for the shortstop. Over his 22 starts in the No. 1 spot in the lineup this season, Story has supplied just two stolen bases.

Berti went 3-for-5 with a walk, an RBI and four stolen bases in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Mets.

The 29-year-old might have won a few fantasy leagues with the huge performance on the basepaths, and with his September in general -- Berti is slashing .323/.389/.400 through 17 games during the month while logging eight of his 16 steals on the year.
