Adames went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-1 loss to the Mets.

His sixth-inning shot, Adames' third homer of the year, accounted for all the Rays' offense against Jacob deGrom. The shortstop hasn't set the world on fire through his first 23 big-league games, posting a .231/282/.372 slash line with a 6:31 BB:K.

Fletcher is out of Friday's lineup against the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

He had started the last seven games, hitting .269/.321/.346 with zero home runs and zero stolen bases over that stretch. Luis Valbuena will start at third base, hitting seventh.

DeJong (hand) will start at shortstop and bat sixth Friday against the Giants, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

In his first start since May 17, DeJong will bat in the six hole against right-hander Dereck Rodriguez. He primarily hit sixth or seventh for the Cardinals before going down with the fractured left hand. Strikeouts remain an issue (29.2 percent this season), but DeJong was walking a lot more early on and the power is real. He has 33 homers in just 149 career games at the major-league level.

DeJong (hand) was activated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Friday's game against the Giants, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

He will presumably slot into the lineup in San Francisco. DeJong will wear a protective guard over his batting glove in an effort to avoid aggravating the injury. DeJong may not play every day, but he will be the Cardinals' primary shortstop going forward.

Sardinas (ankle) was activated off the 60-day disabled list and outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk after clearing waivers.

Sardinas missed the first three months of the season with back and ankle injuries, and the Orioles opted not to bring him back onto the 40-man roster as he comes off the 60-day disabled list. The 25-year-old played four rehab games with Norfolk and will remain there for the foreseeable future.

Anderson (forearm) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros.

Anderson was hit by a pitch late in Thursday's game and was feeling some soreness after the game, so he will take the day off Friday, although he'll be available off the bench if needed. Leury Garcia will take over at shortstop for the White Sox, while Anderson should still be considered day-to-day.

Ahmed went 2-for-5 at the plate in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Padres.

Ahmed has recorded at least one hit in all but one of his last seven starts, lifting his season average from .212 to .226 over that stretch. The shortstop's hard-hit rate (39 percent) is up seven points from his 2017 mark and his line-drive rate sits at a career-best 25.6 percent, offering hope that he'll eventually see some improvement with his .256 BABIP, which has contributed to the low average.

Gordon went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a triple and a run in a win over the Angels on Thursday.

Gordon hit safely for the fourth consecutive game while lacing his third three-bagger of the season in the process. The speedy infielder hit a mediocre .248 in June, but factoring in Thursday's production, he's 5-for-16 with a steal so far in July.

As expected, DeJong (hand) joined the Cardinals in San Francisco on Thursday and remains a candidate for activation Friday. He'll wear a protective guard over his batting glove upon resuming play, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Manager Mike Matheny stated that the team will also want to see how DeJong responds to a rest day before playing on back-to-back days, which hints at him possibly only suiting up in two of the subsequent three games if he's indeed activated Friday. The shortstop has been on the disabled list since May 17 and only logged a total of 13 at-bats with Triple-A Memphis during his rehab stint, so it wouldn't be surprising if timing is somewhat of an issue initially. Moreover, the protective guard he'll don could have an effect on his swing, although that remains to be seen.

Anderson is day-to-day with a sore forearm, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Anderson was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning of Thursday's loss to the Astros and was reportedly dealing with some soreness after the game. With that, the White Sox will reevaluate their starting shortstop Friday before making a decision on whether to keep Anderson in the lineup or give him the day off. If Anderson is given the day off, Yolmer Sanchez could slide over to shortstop.
