Ahmed was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday due to a right hip impingement.

The Diamondbacks swapped out shortstops on the DL on Saturday, as Chris Owings was activated in a corresponding move. Ahmed's 43 wRC+ is the lowest mark in baseball among hitters with at least 300 plate appearances, and the next closest player is Alcides Escobar with a wRC+ of 60, so Ahmed is on his own level of offensive futility. Owings should get the bulk of the starts at shortstop for the Diamondbacks while Ahmed is out.

Owings (plantar fasciitis) was reinstated from the 15-day DL on Saturday and is starting at shortstop and hitting fifth against the Reds.

He will take the place of Nick Ahmed on the active roster after Ahmed was placed on the DL with a right hip impingement. Owings figures to handle the shortstop duties while Ahmed is out, and he will hope to pick up where he left off prior to the injury. Still just 24, Owings' .759 OPS is the best mark of his career. He has rewarded those who did not completely give up on him after he turned in a sub-replacement-level season in 2015.

Baez is not in the starting lineup for the Cubs on Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN reports.

Baez looks to be the odd man out with the return of Dexter Fowler to the lineup on Friday. Over his last 10 games, Baez is hitting .375 with five RBI and three stolen bases. Baez will most likely return to his utility role with the Cubs for the time being.

Seager (illness) is back in the Dodgers' starting lineup Friday, J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group reports.

Seager, who hasn't played since Sunday due to flu-like symptoms, will return to the second spot in the lineup for the Dodgers. Seager will face Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha in St. Louis on Friday. Seager has only three career at-bats against Wacha, going 0-3 with a strikeout. On the season, Seager is hitting .322 with 13 home runs against right-handed pitching.

Rojas will be hitting second and playing third base for the Marlins as they host the Mets on Friday, Adam Rubin of ESPN reports.

The 27-year-old will be getting a rare start at the hot corner, subbing for regular third baseman Martin Prado. In 20 July at-bats, Rojas is hitting .350 with only two strikeouts. Although he doesn't hit for any power, Rojas makes for a sneaky play on Friday as he hits in front Christian Yelich, Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna.

Turner will play second base and hit seventh as the Nationals host the Padres on Friday, Dan Kolko of MASN reports.

Turner will look to extend his five-game hitting streak tonight as the Nationals face Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo. In his short time with the Nationals, Turner is hitting .290/.313/.452 with three stolen bases in 31 at-bats. With Ryan Zimmerman (ribs) and Stephen Drew (illness) expected to return soon, Turner must continue to play well if he wants to remain on the Nationals roster.

Sardinas was recalled on Friday from Triple-A Tacoma.

With Mike Montgomery now on the Chicago Cubs and Ketel Marte not making the trip to Toronto due to an illness, Sardinas was brought up prior to the Mariners' game Friday. At the time of his promotion, Sardinas was hitting .250/.291/.275 with Tacoma, and is 12-for-63 with two home runs and five RBI with the big league club this season. He will provide some added depth for the Mariners, and could get some time starting at short while Marte is out.

Mondesi is hitting .368 with seven RBI and two walks, striking out five times, in his last five games.

After coming back from a PED suspension, Mondesi got off to a slow start but has heated up in the last week. With Alcides Escobar locking down the shortstop position in the majors, unless there's a big shakeup at the trade deadline, Mondesi likely won't see much playing time in Kansas City this year.

Bogaerts went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs in a 13-2 rout of the Twins on Thursday.

A number of Red Sox got in on this offensive party, and Bogaerts was right in the middle of it. He's seen his average dip from its May and June heyday, but Bogaerts has still been a legitimate five-category producer this year. There are a lot of good shortstops out there for fantasy owners, but he's one of the very best.

Gordon (suspension) registered his first hit Wednesday since returning to game action with Triple-A New Orleans earlier in the week.

Gordon was back in the lineup after exiting Tuesday's game with some cramping. He's now 1-for-9 over his first three games as he shakes off the rust following an 80-game PED suspension. Gordon is eligible to return to the Marlins on July 28 and while he figures to regains his starting job a second base, Gordon is ineligible for the postseason so the team will likely continue to mix in Derek Dietrich at the keystone with regularity.
