The Tigers re-signed Leonard to a minor-league contract Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Leonard was non-tendered last month but is now back in the Detroit organization as a non-roster invitee. The 24-year-old slashed .263/.326/.455 with 10 home runs during an injury-shortened 2024 campaign for Triple-A Toledo and is likely headed back there to start 2025.

Eddys Leonard: Entering free agency
The Tigers non-tendered Leonard on Friday.
Detroit designated Leonard for assignment Tuesday, and the 24-year-old shortstop will now enter free agency. Leonard missed multiple months of the 2024 regular season due to separate oblique and hamstring injuries, but he appeared in 67 games for Triple-A Toledo where he slashed .263/.326/.455 with seven stolen bases, 10 home runs and 26 RBI over 282 plate appearances.

Mason McCoy SS | SD
Mason McCoy: Let go by San Diego
The Padres non-tendered McCoy on Friday.
McCoy spent most of the 2024 regular season with Triple-A El Paso, where he slashed .260/.329/.382 with 25 stolen bases, five home runs and 50 RBI over 432 plate appearances. McCoy did manage to make 19 major-league appearances for the Padres and had a slash line of .204/.278/.245 with one stolen base and three RBI over 57 plate appearances. The 29-year-old shortstop could return to the Padres on a minor-league deal and compete for a roster spot in spring training.

Jon Berti 3B | CHC
Jon Berti: Let go by Yankees
The Yankees non-tendered Berti on Friday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
Berti appeared in 25 games for the Yankees during the regular season, slashing .273/.342/.318 with six RBI over 74 plate appearances. The 34-year-old's defensive versatility and ability to reach base at a high rate should earn him some attention in free agency, though a full-time starting role is unlikely.

Tyler Wade SS | TEX
Padres' Tyler Wade: Avoids arbitration
Wade signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Padres on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Wade struggled at the big-league level in 2024, slashing just .217/.285/.239 across 155 plate appearances. However, the Padres will keep him around for another year to serve as bench depth, and the 29-year-old will earn a $50,000 raise in the process.

Benjamin Cowles SS | TOR
Cubs' Benjamin Cowles: Receives 40-man spot
The Cubs selected Cowles to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Cowles was acquired from the Yankees at the trade deadline as part of the Mark Leiter deal, though a wrist injury limited Cowles to playing just four games with Double-A Tennessee at the very end of the year. Prior to his injury, the 24-year-old infielder had slashed .292/.372/.471 with 52 RBI across 379 plate appearances. He'll likely be bumped up to Triple-A Iowa for the start of 2025.

Colson Montgomery SS | CHW
White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Joins 40-man roster
The White Sox selected Montgomery's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Montgomery slashed only .214/.329/.381 with 18 home runs and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate this season at Charlotte, although at 22 (he'll turn 23 in February), he was quite young for that level. He could use some more seasoning, but with a fast start next season, Montgomery could push to see time at shortstop with the big club.
