The Mariners reinstated Vargas (lat) from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Vargas has been on the injured list all season with a strained right lat, though he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games Aug. 8 and has since fired 4.2 shutout innings between High-A Everett and Triple-A Tacoma. Now fully healthy, the 26-year-old righty will likely claim a middle-relief role with the Mariners. Nick Davila was optioned to Tacoma in a corresponding move, and Matt Brash (lat) was transferred to the 60-day IL to free up a 40-man spot.

Montero will not make his next scheduled start during the Tigers' upcoming series against the Rays, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Montero isn't dealing with an injury, but the Tigers said he didn't recover well from his most recent start against Pittsburgh on Tuesday, so they'll give him a few extra days to recover before taking the mound again. Detroit has yet to set a date for the right-hander's next appearance, but it will likely come sometime next weekend against the Dodgers.

Rocchio isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.

Rocchio will get a chance to rest his legs Friday after going 2-for-11 with an RBI and a run scored during the Guardians' last series against San Francisco. Angel Genao will get the nod at shortstop while Rocchio sits.

DeLauter (hamstring) will start in right field and bat second Friday against the Rockies, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.

DeLauter sat out the Guardians' last three games after suffering a hamstring injury Sunday, but he now seems to be feeling well enough to return to the starting nine without spending time on the injured list. The 24-year-old was performing great in the month of August before getting hurt, slashing .339/.422/.482 with two homers, six RBI, 11 runs scored and three steals across 64 plate appearances.

The Tigers pulled Hurter (back) off his rehab assignment Friday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Hurter isn't dealing with any new injury complications, but the Tigers will pull him away from minor-league games anyway for about a week so that he can work out some issues with his delivery. The left-hander hasn't found much success since he was cleared to play in rehab games Aug. 5, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and four walks while striking out four batters in just 3.2 innings.

Crochet (lat) has begun throwing with greater intensity from 90 feet, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Crochet was cleared to begin a throwing program Aug. 4, and although he has yet to begin throwing off a mound, an increase in distance and intensity is still a sign of progress. The 27-year-old lefty won't have enough time to build up as a starter before the end of the season, so the Red Sox will likely use him as a reliever once he's cleared to return from the injured list.

Meckler (head) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Meckler will receive an extra day off to recover after he departed Thursday's game due to taking a pitch off his helmet. Jose Siri, Mike Trout and Josh Lowe will form the Angels' outfield trio Friday while Meckler is on the bench.

Schanuel (side) isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Texas, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Schanuel left Thursday's game early with a side injury, and the Angels will give him an extra day to recover while they match up against left-hander MacKenzie Gore. His absence will cause Vaughn Grissom to move over to first base, opening up second for Oswald Peraza.

Heineman isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Heineman went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run Thursday, but the Angels will keep him on the bench to begin Friday's series opener. Travis d'Arnaud will pick up a start behind the plate as a result and bat eighth.

Gimenez (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Yankees.

Gimenez was pulled from Thursday's game with a right hamstring injury and remains day-to-day for Toronto. With Josh Smith now nursing a hamstring injury of his own, the Blue Jays are starting Ernie Clement at shortstop and Charles McAdoo at second base Friday.
