  • Hunter Brown SP | HOU

Astros' Hunter Brown: Excellent in return

Brown completed 5.2 innings against Detroit on Tuesday, giving up one run on three hits and three walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision.

Brown logged his first MLB game action since March 31 after recovering from a shoulder injury. The right-hander didn't seem to have much rust, logging 12 whiffs and seven punchouts while tossing 92 pitches over 5.2 frames. Brown didn't give up any extra-base hits, and the lone run he allowed came on a walk, two productive outs and a single in the second inning. Fantasy managers who roster Brown should be plenty happy about the hurler's return outing, especially given his near-full workload. Brown should be good to go with minimal restrictions moving forward, and he's projected to make his next appearance on the road versus Toronto.

  • Brandon Young SP | BAL

Orioles' Brandon Young: Takes loss in quality start

Young (5-2) allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two over six innings to take the loss versus the Mariners on Tuesday.

Young had his best outing of the season against the Mariners in his last start, but he wasn't quite as good in the rematch in Seattle. It was still a fifth straight quality start for the right-hander, who has given the Orioles good pitching more often than not. He's now at a 3.18 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 44:23 K:BB over 62.1 innings across 11 starts this season. Young's lack of strikeouts limits his usefulness in fantasy, but he's allowed three runs or less in all but one of his starts. He's projected for a tough road start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

    Tigers' Colt Keith: X-rays negative

X-rays on Keith's right wrist came back negative Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Keith was a late scratch from the lineup before Tuesday's contest due to wrist soreness, but precautionary imaging determined that he isn't dealing with a serious issue, and the Tigers expect him to return to action Wednesday. The 24-year-old infielder is batting just .206 (7-for-34) since the start of June, but he exploded for three homers and six total RBI during his most recent game.

  • Keider Montero SP | DET

Tigers' Keider Montero: Makes move to bullpen

Montero dropped to 3-5 on the season after striking out two batters and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits across 1.1 innings out out the bullpen in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Astros.

Montero had made all 13 of his previous appearances this season as a starter, but with Tarik Skubal returning from the injured list last weekend and both Casey Mize (adductor) and Justin Verlander (hip) on track to be activated Wednesday and Sunday, respectively, the Tigers no longer have room in the rotation for Montero for the time being. According to Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said prior to Tuesday's contest that Montero will remain in the bullpen for at least the next two series, though it's possible Detroit will expand its rotation to six to include the young right-hander when the club begins a stretch of 11 games is many days June 22. Despite a general lack of strikeouts (50 in 73.2 innings), Montero has been effective as a starter this season with a 3.61 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 72.1 innings.

  • Mariners' Curtis Washington: Selected from High-A

The Mariners selected Washington's contract from High-A Everett on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

With Randy Arozarena (hamstring) and Luke Raley (back) both sitting out Tuesday with injuries, the Mariners will promote Washington from High-A all the way to the majors to give depth to their outfield unit. The 26-year-old has slashed just .190/.280/.394 at Everett this season and is unlikely to play outside of an emergency.

  • Mariners' Randy Arozarena: Heads to IL with hamstring strain

The Mariners placed Arozarena on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a left hamstring strain.

The Mariners originally anticipated Arozarena would return to the starting lineup as soon as Wednesday. However, an MRI on his hamstring revealed more inflammation than the team was expecting, prompting Seattle to deactivate him. Victor Robles and Rob Refsnyder are the most likely candidates to receive more playing time in the corner outfield while Arozarena is out, and the Mariners called up Curtis Washington from High-A Everett to provide emergency depth in the outfield.

  • Connor Joe RF | SEA

Mariners' Connor Joe: Expected to be called up Wednesday

Joe is expected to be called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Joe was scratched from Tacoma's lineup Tuesday as he prepares to return to the major-league roster after being sent down to Triple-A on May 22. The outfielder will help replace Randy Arozarena (hamstring) after Arozarena was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Joe has posted a .182 average with one home run, three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases over 33 at-bats in 18 contests with Seattle so far this year.

  • Mariners' Cooper Criswell: Targeting early-August return

Criswell was diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus pectoral strain Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Criswell initially landed on the injured list last Tuesday with a shoulder strain, but further testing determined the issue to be in his pec. He's scheduled to undergo another MRI in 3-to-4 weeks, at which point he may be cleared to begin a throwing program. If all goes according to plan, the Mariners expect to activate the 29-year-old reliever sometime around the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Makes early departure

Garcia was removed from Tuesday's game against the Nationals with an apparent hand injury, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Garcia's hand looked to be bothering him during his final plate appearance in the fourth inning, and the Royals eventually pulled him for a pinch hitter in the sixth. The severity of his injury is unknown, but the Royals should provide more information after the game.

  • Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Starts running progression

Donovan (groin) began a running progression Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Donovan has been sidelined since suffering a left groin strain in mid-May, and he's now set to start running again. Based on the injury, the running program is the largest hurdle for the 29-year-old to clear, and it's expected to last between 10 days and two weeks. If all goes well, Donovan would then be in a position to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.
