Patrick Bailey C | CLE
Guardians' Patrick Bailey: On bench again Sunday
Bailey is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
After making consecutive starts behind the plate to begin the week, Bailey will now hit the bench for the third time in four contests. Austin Hedges will get the nod at catcher over Bailey once again Sunday. Since he was acquired from the Giants on May 9, Bailey has slashed .148/.200/.333 with a home run and four RBI in 10 games.

Angel Martinez LF | CLE
Guardians' Angel Martinez: Day-to-day with foot strain
Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said Sunday that Martinez has been diagnosed with a right foot strain following an MRI, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Though Martinez will be held out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale versus the Red Sox, the Guardians view the diagnosis as a good outcome for the 24-year-old, and he could be available off the bench Sunday. With an off day on tap Monday, Martinez might be ready to rejoin the starting nine for Tuesday's series opener versus the Yankees.

Vinnie Pasquantino 1B | KC
Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Reaches base four times Saturday
Pasquantino went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two walks in Saturday's loss to the Rangers.
Pasquantino reached base in four of his five plate appearances, most notably lacing an RBI double in the seventh inning. Saturday was the first baseman's 11th multi-hit effort of the season and second in as many days, while he also drew multiple walks for the fifth time this year. While 2026 has been disappointing overall for Pasquantino, he has been more productive of late, slashing .333/.455/.444 with three doubles, three RBI, three runs and a stolen base over the past eight games.

Daniel Schneemann CF | CLE
Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: On bench Sunday
Schneemann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
The utility man occasionally starts versus lefties but will hit the bench against southpaw Ranger Suarez. After posting a .955 OPS with four homers and two steals over the first month of the campaign, Schneemann has scuffled at the plate in May with a .149/.241/.176 slash line in 22 contests.

Willson Contreras 1B | BOS
Red Sox's Willson Contreras: Getting day off due to wrist issue
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that Contreras is being held out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians while he manages a lingering wrist/hand injury, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Since the Red Sox don't play Monday, sending Contreras to the bench Sunday will give the 34-year-old two full days off to recover. Tracy didn't seem overly concerned about the wrist issue, and Contreras is expected to be back in the starting nine Tuesday. Mickey Gasper will spell Contreras at first base Sunday.

Ceddanne Rafaela CF | BOS
Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Nursing sore lower back
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that Rafaela was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians due to a sore lower back, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Tracy didn't seem to be overly concerned about the injury, with the skipper noting that the Red Sox just wanted to be cautious with the outfielder. With the benefit of a team off day Monday, Rafaela is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday.

Garrett Crochet RP | BOS
Red Sox's Garrett Crochet: Suffers setback in recovery process
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Sunday that Crochet (shoulder) began experiencing lat tightness over the past few days and will have his throwing program shut down for the time being, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Though he initially expressed optimism that he would return in the minimum amount of time after landing on the 15-day injured list April 29 due to left shoulder inflammation, Crochet now remains without a clear timeline to rejoin the Boston rotation more than a month later. The southpaw had been scheduled to face live hitters in a simulated game Tuesday, but that plan has now been scrapped. Tracy noted that Crochet will visit doctors early this coming week and will likely undergo an MRI, which could offer some clarity on the 26-year-old's next steps.

Kerry Carpenter RF | DET
Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Returning from IL as DH on Sunday
The Tigers reinstated Carpenter (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in the Tigers' series finale versus the White Sox.
Carpenter will be back in action for Detroit after a three-week absence while he recovered from an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. The 28-year-old could eventually settle back into a regular role in the corner outfield, but after going 1-for-3 with three walks while playing in a pair of rehab games with Triple-A Toledo the past two days, Carpenter won't be asked to play defense in his return from the IL.

Nick Sogard 2B | BOS
Red Sox's Nick Sogard: Taking seat Sunday
Sogard is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
After taking a seat for Friday's series opener in Cleveland while managing a nagging right side injury, Sogard returned to the lineup at second base for Saturday's 9-1 win and went hitless in two at-bats. The Red Sox will give Sogard another day off Sunday to further manage the side injury, which will enable both Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Caleb Durbin to fill starting roles.

Ceddanne Rafaela CF | BOS
Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Late scratch from lineup
The Red Sox scratched Rafaela (undisclosed) from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Rafaela had been slated to start in center field and bat second, but he'll wind up hitting the bench for the first time since May 18. The Red Sox should provide more details behind Rafaela's late scratch later Sunday.
