Anderson (1-1) earned the win Wednesday over the Rangers, allowing a run on six hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out five.

After giving up four runs in a loss to the A's his last time out, Anderson responded with his best start in the majors thus far. The southpaw allowed one run on a Jake Burger homer in the second inning before holding the Rangers to just three hits over his final four frames en route to both his first win and quality start with Seattle. Through four MLB outings, Anderson sports a 4.29 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB over 21 innings. He's tentatively lined up to face the Angels on the road in his next start.

Keith went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Twins.

Keith was eventually lifted for pinch hitter Spencer Torkelson, but not before he clubbed his 10th home run of the season just three batters into the game to give Detroit an early 2-0 lead. The 25-year-old is seeing more time at first base lately in place of the struggling Torkelson, and that arrangement could stick down the stretch, at least against right-handed starters, where the left-handed bat of Keith holds the platoon advantage. He's not been an elite fantasy performer by any means, though his current playing time gives Keith a fairly stable floor.

Matthews (9-10) took the loss Wednesday as the Twins fell 7-2 to the Tigers, coughing up five runs on two hits and four walks over 2.1 innings. He struck out two.

Two runs in the first inning and three more in the third chased Matthews from the mound after just 58 pitches (27 strikes) in his shortest outing of the season, which was delayed by an hour and 40 minutes prior to the first pitch. It was a tough pill to swallow for the right-hander after he came in lasting at least five frames in eight straight starts, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB over that stretch. The loss drops Minnesota to 4.5 games back of a wild-card spot with 16 to play, and four other teams it would need to move past to make the postseason. Matthews lines up to make his next start at home next week against the Yankees.

The Yankees are expected to recall Volpe from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.

The Yankees are going to need an extra infielder once they place Jazz Chisholm (thumb) on the injured list, and it will be Volpe who joins the parent club as the replacement. The 25-year-old has thrived since moving down to Triple-A in early August, slashing .295/.393/.667 with 10 homers, 31 RBI, 22 runs and eight steals across 122 plate appearances with the RailRiders. He's worked exclusively as a shortstop throughout his four seasons in the majors but has lately been working at second and third base in the minors, which could open up more avenues to playing time once he rejoins the Pinstripes.

Seabold (lat) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Seabold is finally ready to pitch in games again after being sidelined since late June with a right lat strain. The 30-year-old is aiming to rejoin the Royals' bullpen before the conclusion of the regular season.

McArthur (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday.

McArthur has not pitched anywhere since 2024, first due to surgery to repair a fractured right elbow and later because of an additional procedure on the elbow to combat recurring inflammation. He should rejoin the Royals' bullpen later this month if things go well on the rehab assignment.

Contreras (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Portland on Friday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Contreras took batting practice on the field before Tuesday's game against the Angels as the latest step in his recovery from a left hamstring strain. He'd been a candidate to return from the injured list for Friday's series opener against the Royals, but the Sox will instead have him play in a few tune-up games before adding him back to the active roster.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Wednesday that Rutschman was given a cortisone injection in his right elbow following Monday's game versus the Angels, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

It explains why Rutschman is missing a second straight start Wednesday. The catcher suffered a hyperextended elbow in late August and has been dealing with nagging soreness off-and-on since. Tracy said that Rutschman is expected back in the lineup Friday against the Royals following the team's day off Thursday.

Caglianone (elbow) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Diamondbacks.

It marks the fourth consecutive start Caglianone has missed as he recovers from a left flexor strain. The Royals are idle Thursday, so Caglianone will aim to return to the lineup Friday in Boston. John Rave is covering right field for Kansas City on Wednesday.

Garcia (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Garcia has been sidelined for the past three weeks with a strained left hamstring, but he's been cleared to test things out in game action. The 26-year-old could be ready to rejoin the active roster in the coming days if things go smoothly on his rehab assignment.
