Shane McClanahan SP | TB
Rays' Shane McClanahan: Touches 94-95 mph in live BP
Rays manager Kevin Cash said that McClanahan (elbow) touched 94-to-95 mph in a 16-pitch live batting practice session Wednesday at Tropicana Field, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Cash added that McClanahan -- who is coming back from August 2023 Tommy John surgery -- is "mentally ready to go" and "excited about a normal offseason." The left-hander is expected to be ready for spring training and next year's Opening Day, although he is expected to have workload restrictions in place after missing the entirety of the 2024 campaign.

Matt Wallner RF | MIN
Twins' Matt Wallner: Sent to IL with oblique strain
The Twins placed Wallner on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Wallner suffered the injury during a pinch-hitting appearance in Tuesday's loss to the Marlins, and it will cost him the remainder of the regular season. He would be eligible to return during the ALDS if replacing an injured player, although neither the Twins making it that far nor Wallner being healthy by then is guaranteed. Austin Martin has rejoined the active roster in Wallner's place.

Bo Bichette SS | TOR
Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Undergoing surgery on finger
Bichette will undergo surgery Wednesday to have a pin inserted into his fractured right middle finger, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
The pin will ensure the finger heals correctly. Bichette is expected to make a full recovery from surgery by the time spring training rolls around. The 26-year-old was limited to just 81 games in 2024 due to injury, slashing a disappointing .225/.277/.322 with four home runs.

Taylor Walls SS | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Heading back to bench Wednesday
Walls is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Walls will hit the bench after a stretch of three consecutive starts and five starts in the past six games. The infielder has produced a weak .546 OPS in September, but that mark is actually an improvement over his season-long OPS of .519. He continues to see semi-regular playing time largely because of his defensive work.

Ceddanne Rafaela CF | BOS
Red Sox's Ceddanne Rafaela: Absent from lineup
Rafaela is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Toronto, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.
Rafaela appears to be receiving a routine day off after he started each of the previous five contests. Jarren Duran will shift over to center field in Rafaela's stead, and Enmanuel Valdez will cover second base for the Red Sox.

Yandy Diaz 1B | TB
Rays' Yandy Diaz: Out of Tampa Bay lineup
Diaz is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Detroit.
For the second time over the last three games, Diaz will exit the lineup as he continues to see his playing time dip this month. Jonathan Aranda is getting another start at first base for the Rays while Brandon Lowe handles designated-hitter duties.

Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA
Angels' Anthony Rendon: Unlikely to play again in 2024
Rendon (oblique) hasn't yet been ruled out from returning this season, though Angels manager Ron Washington suggested Tuesday that the third baseman's return is unlikely, Andrew Seligman of the Associated Press reports.
Rendon last played for Los Angeles on Sept. 7. He subsequently missed two games due to what was originally diagnosed as a sore back, and despite initially being expected to be out just a few days, Rendon was eventually moved to the injured list and deemed to be suffering from a left oblique strain. Washington wouldn't entirely commit Tuesday to Rendon being done for the season, though the manager implied that will be the likely outcome, saying, "We haven't made a total decision on that yet, but we're still working through it. I think you make a common-sense deduction, you can answer that one yourself." If Rendon's season is in fact over, he'll finish with a .218/.307/.267 slash line, no home runs, 14 RBI, 21 runs and six stolen bases over 57 games. Since joining the Angels on a seven-year, $245 million contract in 2020, Rendon hasn't played more than 58 games in any of his five campaigns.
