Chris Martin RP | BOS
Red Sox's Chris Martin: Works ninth to collect win Tuesday
Martin (3-1) picked up the win Tuesday, walking one and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning during Boston's 6-5 extra-inning victory over Toronto.
The veteran righty worked the bottom of the ninth in a tie game on the road, so he wasn't being held back for a potential save chance -- Chase Shugart wound up recording the save instead, the first for a Red Sox reliever since Kenley Jansen (shoulder) was shut down. Martin still appears to be the top choice for high-leverage spots, but he's had a bumpy September, posting a 7.71 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through seven innings with an 8:1 K:BB.

Brayan Bello SP | BOS
Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Inefficient in no-decision
Bello came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.
While the right-hander didn't pitch poorly, Bello needed 75 pitches (42 strikes) to record his 12 outs, putting extra pressure on the Boston bullpen in a contest that eventually went to 10 innings. Bello wraps up his campaign with a career-high 14 wins, a 4.49 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 153:64 K:BB through a career-high 162.1 innings, and the 25-year-old figures to be a key part of the team's 2025 rotation plans.

Jonah Heim C | TEX
Rangers' Jonah Heim: Goes deep in Tuesday's loss
Heim went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.
Heim tied the game up in the top of the eighth with a solo home run off Scott Alexander for his first long ball since Aug. 31. Heim does have seven hits over his last six games but is hitting just .173 since the All-Star break. It's been a down year offensively for the 29-year-old, who's now slashing .218/.265/.333 with 13 homers, 57 RBI, 43 runs, a steal and a 25:85 BB:K in 475 plate appearances.

Nate Lowe 1B | TEX
Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Goes deep Tuesday
Lowe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.
Lowe took Mitch Spence deep to center in the fourth for his first long ball since Sept. 12 and his third this month. Lowe has now reached safely in seven straight games, though he has five walks and just four hits over that span. For the year, he's slashing .262/.359/.386 with 14 homers, 62 RBI, 57 runs, two steals and a 69:120 BB:K in 543 plate appearances.

Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX
Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Works through seven innings
Eovaldi did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out seven in seven innings.
The Athletics plated a pair of runs against Eovaldi in the first, another in the third and then scratched across one more in the sixth stemming from an error earlier in the inning. Eovaldi only allowed four hits, two of which came in the first inning, and his seven strikeouts were his second most in eight starts since Aug. 10. Eovaldi is now winless in his last three starts and holds a 7.56 ERA over that span. For the year, he holds a 3.96 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 161:41 K:BB in 163.2 innings and lines up to face the Angels over the weekend in his final start of the year.

Mason Miller RP | OAK
Athletics' Mason Miller: Garners win Tuesday
Miller (2-2) got the win over the Rangers on Tuesday after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed two hits and struck out two.
Miller entered with the game tied, hoping to keep it that way to give his team a chance to win it in the bottom of the frame. He allowed back-to-back one-out singles but rebounded with a strikeout and fly out to get out of the jam. The A's would end up walking it off to give Miller the win. The right-hander has allowed a baserunner in each of his last five appearances but has still managed to lock up four saves and a win since Sept. 11. For the year, Miller owns a 2.30 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 99:21 K:BB in 62.2 innings.

Lawrence Butler RF | OAK
Athletics' Lawrence Butler: On base three times
Butler went 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs and a stolen base in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Butler drew multiple walks for the fifth time this season and added his third stolen base over the last four games. Dating back to Aug. 21, Butler has hit safely in 27 of his last 29 games and is batting .336 over that span. He's two steals away from joining the 20-20 club for the season, as he currently stands at 22 homers for the year.
-
Mitch Spence SP | OAK
Athletics' Mitch Spence: Can't make it to five innings
Spence did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's win over the Rangers, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings.
Spence found himself with traffic on the bases in every inning but the second, leading to runs for the Rangers in the first, fourth and fifth innings. He has now gone fewer than five innings in two of his last four starts and has allowed a homer in three straight after Nathaniel Lowe took him deep in the fourth. Spence has also allowed 29 hits in his last 21 innings, but he has only given up eight runs over that span. The 26-year-old now owns a 4.35 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 121:44 K:BB in 147 innings and tentatively lines up for one final start against the Mariners this weekend.

James McArthur RP | KC
Royals' James McArthur: Won't return in October
McArthur (elbow) will not return in 2024, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
McArthur is being shut down after his attempts to rehab a Grade 1 UCL sprain have not gone well. The right-hander functioned as the Royals' closer for a large part of the year, racking up 18 saves in 25 chances with a 4.92 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 49:14 K:BB over 56.2 innings. Given the nature of his injury, it's unclear if he'll be ready to go from the start next spring.

Hunter Harvey RP | KC
Royals' Hunter Harvey: Shut down for season
Harvey (back) won't return in 2024, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Harvey has not made sufficient progress while rehabbing his back injury, and the Royals have opted to shut him down instead. He'll end the season with a 4.44 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB over 50.2 innings while adding a save and 28 holds across 49 appearances between the Nationals and the Royals.
