Machado is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati.

It's the first day off since the All-Star break for Machado, who has just a .623 OPS with one home run since the beginning of August. Jake Cronenworth will start at third base while Machado gets a breather.

The Giants signed Baker to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

Baker has been injured for much of this season and got released from his minor-league deal with the White Sox in late July after posting a .584 OPS in 11 games with Triple-A Charlotte. The 27-year-old is merely organizational depth for the Giants.

The Reds signed Arcia to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

Arcia hit .271/.300/.354 in 19 games with the Twins earlier this season and posted an .834 OPS in 63 contests with Triple-A St. Paul. The 32-year-old will provide veteran infield depth at Triple-A Louisville.

Bubic (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, striking out two in a perfect inning.

Bubic initially went down with left elbow soreness in mid-May and had to be pulled off an initial rehab assignment due to left shoulder discomfort. His outing Tuesday was his first in more than two months, but he looked sharp. Bubic was acquired by the Dodgers at the trade deadline and is aiming to help out as a reliever down the stretch.

Betts went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two walks, four RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 loss to the Cardinals.

Betts has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games, going 14-for-43 (.326) in that span. He accounted for all of the Dodgers' damage off Michael McGreevy in this contest. The late surge has helped Betts recoup a little fantasy value late in the year after a rough start to the campaign. Overall, he's batting .242 with a .715 OPS, 16 home runs, 51 RBI, 18 doubles, 52 runs scored and one stolen base over 101 games.

Edman went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 loss to the Cardinals.

Edman had gone just 2-for-16 over his previous four games. The utility man was able to deliver a decent performance Tuesday in the high-scoring loss. Edman is batting .268 with a .748 OPS, five home runs, 28 RBI, 31 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples and five stolen bases over 61 contests.

Lauer (8-7) allowed seven runs on eight hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out two over three innings to take the loss versus the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Lauer was tagged for a pair of home runs in the second inning, but it was a parade of hits in the third inning that brought his start to an early end. With 20 runs allowed (19 earned) over his last 20.1 innings, Lauer is stumbling to the finish line this year. However, the Dodgers need him in the rotation while Roki Sasaki (finger) is out, as Justin Wrobleski has moved to the bullpen. Lauer has put up a 5.23 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 72:35 K:BB through 108.1 innings over 22 games (18 starts) this season. His next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Nationals over the weekend. The Dodgers' pitching plans for the next turn through the rotation likely hinge on Shohei Ohtani's availability to take the mound after he was scratched from a start Sunday versus Detroit due to ongoing knee and biceps concerns.

Fermin went 1-for-4 with one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Dodgers.

Fermin was atop the order for the second time in five games. He hasn't shown a ton of speed in his first full big-league season, swiping eight bags over 100 games, though he hasn't been caught stealing either. Fermin is batting .240 with a .659 OPS, six home runs, 35 RBI, 25 runs scored and 14 doubles, which isn't exactly a prototypical stat line for a leadoff man, but he fills that role versus southpaws.

Baez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Dodgers.

This was Baez's second homer in his last three games. Aside from a three-homer debut, he has struggled a bit in adjusting to the majors. He's batting .175 with a .764 OPS, six homers, 11 RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and two stolen bases over his first 17 games. Baez is also striking out at a 37.1 percent rate, which is a red flag considering he struck out at a 29.6 percent clip in Triple-A prior to his call-up.

Urias went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 13-8 win over the Dodgers.

Urias has gone 3-for-18 (.167) with two homers over eight games since he returned from a bout of tennis elbow in both arms. The infielder is filling a part-time role between second base and third base as the Cardinals navigate a tricky stretch of injuries. Urias is batting .160 with a .641 OPS, four homers, eight RBI, 14 runs scored, three doubles and no stolen bases over 89 plate appearances this year.
