  • Will Smith C | LAD

    Dodgers' Will Smith: Idle Sunday

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

Smith will receive a breather for the series finale after going 1-for-7 with a walk while starting behind the plate during the first two contests of the series. Dalton Rushing will handle catching duties for the finale versus Atlanta.

  • Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez: Receiving day off amid rough spell

Hernandez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta.

According to Jack Harris of the California Post, manager Dave Roberts classified Hernandez's absence from Sunday's lineup as a rest day, and the skipper suggested that the outfielder could be in line for more planned days off as he aims to "work things out" during a rough stretch at the plate. Dating back to April 17, Hernandez is batting just .176 with one extra-base hit. Hernandez is maintaining a more palatable .238 average on the season, but he's supplemented it with a .365 slugging percentage, a career-low mark by 55 points.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Out of Sunday's lineup

Gurriel is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Gurriel started the first two games of the series but will hit the bench Sunday after going 0-for-8 with two strikeouts. Ryan Waldschmidt will shift to left field while Jorge Barrosa starts in center.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Getting Sunday off

Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Moreno started the first two games of the series but will sit Sunday while in the midst of a mini slump, as he's gone 0-for-9 with two walks over his past four contests. James McCann is starting behind the plate for Arizona in the series finale.

  • Braves' Mike Yastrzemski: Idle against southpaw

Yastrzemski is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Yastrzemski will hit the bench for a second straight day while the Dodgers send another lefty to the hill in Justin Wrobleski. Eli White will pick up the start in right field.

  • Giants' Bryce Eldridge: On bench for second time in series

Eldridge is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Eldridge smacked a solo home run in Saturday's 13-3 loss, but he's otherwise made a limited impact since being promoted from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Through his first four games with the Giants, Eldridge has gone 2-for-13 with a 1:4 BB:K and no extra-base hits beyond the home run. Eldridge will hit the bench for the second time in three games, and he looks like he may have to share the designated-hitter spot with Casey Schmitt until the former's production warrants a larger role.

  • Giants' Jesus Rodriguez: Settling into regular role

Rodriguez will start at catcher and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

The 24-year-old rookie will stick in the lineup for the fifth time in six games, with four of his starts coming behind the plate. After the Giants shipped Patrick Bailey to the Guardians on Saturday, Rodriguez is poised to serve as San Francisco's No. 1 catcher in the short term. Daniel Susac (elbow) will be a factor once he's activated from the 10-day injured list during the upcoming week, but Rodriguez's ability to play the corner outfield as well as multiple infield spots could allow him to maintain a near-everyday role. Since being called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, he's gotten off to a nice start to his big-league career, going 5-for-11 with a home run and two RBI through his first four games.

  • Phillies' Jackson Rutledge: Claimed by Philly

The Phillies claimed Rutledge off waivers and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sunday.

The 2019 first-round pick was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Tuesday but will retain his position on a 40-man roster with the Phillies. Rutledge surrendered seven earned runs in his lone appearance for Washington this season and had an underwhelming 3.38 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 13 outings to begin the year at Triple-A.

  • Bryan Reynolds LF | PIT

Pirates' Bryan Reynolds: Taking seat Sunday

Reynolds is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Reynolds will hit the bench for just the second time all season in what will be his first day off since April 16. Nick Yorke will step in as the Pirates' starter in left field in place of Reynolds, who has slashed .259/.429/.481 with one home run, one stolen base, six runs and four RBI through the team's first eight games of May.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

    Pirates' Joey Bart: Resting Sunday

Bart is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

After starting behind the plate in the Bucs' previous three games, Bart will get a breather for the series finale in San Francisco. Henry Davis will form a battery with starting pitcher Bubba Chandler on Sunday.
