Bailey is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Bailey made three straight starts behind the dish before being left out of the lineup in Sunday's 6-5 win over Seattle. He ended up entering Sunday's contest as a pinch hitter, striking out in his lone at-bat while catching the game's final three innings. The Guardians may be looking to give Bailey a proper rest day Monday while Austin Hedges receives the starting nod at catcher in the series opener.

Johnston will start in right field and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Marlins.

The Rockies will keep Johnston in the starting nine for the fourth straight game and for the fifth time in six contests after he went 6-for-15 at the plate over the previous week, boosting his OPS to .814 on the season. Johnston's opportunities appeared to be on the downturn around the middle of the June, but he's begun to eat into the playing time Tyler Freeman, a right-handed hitter who should play regularly against lefties but may be in line for more of a part-time role against righties. With Colorado projected to face four right-handed Marlins starters and two right-handed Giants starters at Coors Field during its seven-game week, the left-handed-hitting Johnston looks like a solid short-term fantasy option, even in shallower leagues.

The Yankees recalled Bird from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

He'll grab the roster spot vacated by David Bednar, who was placed on the paternity leave list. Bird boasts a 27:7 K:BB over 24 innings with the Yankees this season, though that's come with a bloated 4.88 ERA. He could be sent back down later this week when Bednar returns.

Castro is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins.

Castro will get his first day off since June 17, ending a stretch of nine consecutive starts for the veteran infielder. While Castro hits the bench Monday, the Rockies will turn to Edouard Julien at second base and Kyle Karros at third base.

The Yankees placed Bednar on the paternity list Monday.

While he welcomes a new addition to his family, Bednar will be away from the Yankees for between one and three days. If Bednar ends up missing the entirety of their three-game series versus the Tigers to begin the week, the Yankees will likely turn to Camilo Doval or Fernando Cruz for any save situations that might arise.

Freeman is out of the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Marlins.

Freeman has now been out of the lineup two of the last three times the Rockies have faced a right-hander, as the return of Mickey Moniak from the injured list has cut into his playing time a bit. Moniak will serve as the Rockies' designated hitter for the series opener, and Troy Johnston will patrol right field.

Smith (neck) isn't expected to be ready to return from the 10-day injured list when the Dodgers begin a 10-game homestand Thursday to close out their first-half schedule, MLB.com reports.

Smith landed on the injured list June 11 due to neck inflammation and has yet to resume baseball activities since hitting the shelf. The Dodgers could still be leaving the door open for Smith to return at some point later on during the homestand, but unless he's able to start ramping up by the end of the week, the team could be inclined to hold him out through the All-Star break. Dalton Rushing will continue to serve as the Dodgers' primary option behind the dish for however long Smith remains out.

Paddack is close to finalizing a major-league deal with the Rangers and could be formally added to the roster in the coming days, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Paddack will need to pass a physical before putting pen to paper on a deal, but the veteran right-hander appears poised to get a look in the rotation spot that opened up when Jack Leiter (ankle) was placed on the injured list June 21. Though Paddack will provide the Rangers with an experienced option at the back of the rotation, his recent form suggests that he won't offer much value beyond eating innings. The 30-year-old has already been released by the Marlins and Reds this season after going 0-7 with a 6.96 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 8.1 K-BB% in 53 innings between the two squads.

The Rangers are expected to promote Cauley from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Cauley has put together a nice season with Round Rock, slashing .262/.363/.407 with eight home runs, 29 stolen bases and a 45:73 BB:K over 74 games. The 23-year-old has started games at shortstop, second base, third base and center field this season and will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. It's unclear what corresponding 40-man roster move the Rangers will make in order to free up a spot for Cauley.

Pivetta (forearm) threw a light bullpen session Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Pivetta likely didn't incorporate all of his pitchers or throw at full intensity, but the bullpen session is a step forward nonetheless as he works his way back from a flexor strain. The right-hander will need to complete multiple side sessions before advancing to facing hitters in live batting practice and eventually heading out on an extended rehab assignment. The Padres haven't pinpointed a target date for his return, but Pivetta's stay on the 60-day injured list will likely be extended through at least late July or early August.
