Blue Jays' Joe Mantiply: Expected to resume throwing soon

Mantiply (knee) is expected to resume throwing within the next couple of days, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Mantiply landed on the 15-day injured list this past Tuesday due to left knee inflammation. He's ready to take the next step in his recovery program, and once he gets a couple of bullpen sessions under his belt, the Blue Jays will have a better sense of when Mantiply can returned from the IL.

  • Max Scherzer SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Max Scherzer: Scheduled for another live session

Scherzer (forearm) is slated to face live hitters in Toronto on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Scherzer landed on the 15-day injured list in late April due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation, and he's also been dealing with tight thumb issue. He's progressed enough in his recovery to throw live batting practice, and the Blue Jays should have a better sense of the veteran right-handers recovery timeline following Wednesday's workout.

  • Ryan Fernandez RP | STL

Cardinals' Ryan Fernandez: Set to be recalled Tuesday

Fernandez will be recalled from Triple-A Memphis prior to Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Fernandez was technically optioned after serving as the 27th man during Saturday's doubleheader in Cincinnati, but he remained with the club and will now rejoin the bullpen. The right-hander has pitched well out of the Cardinals' bullpen this season, posting a 1.17 ERA and 13:2 K:BB over 7.2 innings.

  • Brycen Mautz RP | STL

Cardinals' Brycen Mautz: Optioned after MLB debut

The Cardinals optioned Mautz to Triple-A Memphis on Monday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Mautz made his major-league debut out of the bullpen during Monday's 5-1 loss to Milwaukee, getting charged with two runs over three innings. The left-hander helped keep the rest of St. Louis' bullpen arms fresh and will now rejoin the rotation at Memphis.

  • Max Kranick RP | WAS

Nationals' Max Kranick: Moved to 60-day IL

The Nationals transferred Kranick (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Monday.

The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Carson Palmquist, whom the Nationals optioned to Triple-A after acquiring him from the Rockies on Monday. Kranick signed a one-year deal with the Nationals in early May and continues to recover from flexor tendon surgery that he underwent in July of 2025. His move means the earliest he can be activated off the IL is early July, but it's unclear whether he'll be ready for big-league action at that time.

  • Diamondbacks' Jonathan Loaisiga: Has been nursing shoulder fatigue

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo revealed Monday that Loasiga has been dealing with right shoulder fatigue, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Loasiga has not pitched since late Tuesday and it's unclear whether he's available out of the bullpen Monday in San Francisco, but Lovullo said he had "no concern" about the reliever. The 31-year-old is unscored upon in six outings this month, lowering his season ERA to 2.79.

  • Nationals' Carson Palmquist: Sent to Washington

The Rockies traded Palmquist to the Nationals on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.

Palmquist was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Thursday, but he'll now be a part of the Nationals organization and will get a fresh start with Triple-A Rochester. He has spent the entire 2026 season in Triple-A, where he has a 7.20 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 24:19 K:BB across 25 innings. Max Kranick (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Hunter Brown SP | HOU

Astros' Hunter Brown: Shifting rehab to Triple-A

Brown (shoulder) will make his next rehab start this weekend at Triple-A Sugar Land, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Brown opened his rehab assignment Sunday with Double-A Corpus Christie, when he struck out five batters while allowing one hit across two scoreless innings. He'll make his next rehab start in Triple-A and is aiming to be activated from the 60-day injured list in mid-June, per McTaggart. Brown is in the final stages of his recovery from a Grade 2 right shoulder strain that landed him on the IL in early April.

  • Josh H. Smith 2B | TOR

Rangers' Josh Smith: Timeline for activities unclear

Smith (illness) is expected to return to Globe Life Field this week, but it's unclear when he'll be ready to ramp up his baseball activities, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Smith was first sidelined with a right glute strain and then a wrist problem, but more recently he was diagnosed with viral meningitis. He was in the hospital for several days with the illness but is now on the mend. However, it could be several weeks before Smith is ready to return to the Rangers' active roster.

  • Joey Loperfido LF | HOU

Astros' Joey Loperfido: Dealing with foot injury

Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Monday that Loperfido (quadriceps) will pause his rehab assignment until Wednesday after fouling a ball off his foot during Sunday's game with Double-A Corpus Christie, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Loperfido started his rehab assignment in Double-A on Sunday, when he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a hit-by-pitch. He sustained a foot injury during that contest, but it doesn't appear to be a serious issue as he's expected to be back in action Wednesday. Loperfido continues to recover from a right quadriceps strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list in mid-April.
