Messick didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Twins after allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings.

Messick kept Minnesota quiet outside of the second inning, when Kody Clemens singled and Royce Lewis followed with an RBI double to open the scoring. The left-handed Messick allowed only one additional hit before departing with one out in the sixth, keeping Cleveland within a run until its offense eventually broke through. Messick owns a 2.51 ERA after the strong outing, though he was denied his 12th victory of the season. In 10 starts since the Midsummer Classic, Messick has a 2.09 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 68:11 K:BB across 60.1 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start at home against the White Sox in a matchup with plenty of playoff implications next week.

Stallings earned the save after walking one and striking out two over three hitless and scoreless innings in Friday's 20-0 win over the Reds.

Stallings took over for Dustin May with Milwaukee comfortably ahead and handled the final three innings without allowing a hit. Despite the enormous margin of victory, his three-inning stint to finish the victory qualified him for a save, the first save of Stallings' MLB career. The right-hander was making his first appearance since retuning to the major-league roster, as he was previously demoted to Triple-A Nashville on Aug. 4. Stallings has yet to allow a run in five major-league relief appearances in 2026, posting a 11:4 K:BB through 11 innings in that span.

May (7-9) earned the win Friday against the Reds after allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six over six scoreless innings.

May had little trouble protecting the massive advantage Milwaukee's offense provided, limiting Cincinnati to a pair of Sal Stewart singles over six innings. The right-hander threw 84 pitches (56 strikes) and didn't allow a Reds runner to reach third base while combining with Garrett Stallings on a two-hit shutout. May improved to 2-2 in seven starts since joining Milwaukee at the trade deadline, posting a 4.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with a 27:11 K:BB in 29.1 innings over that stretch. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Pirates.

Contreras went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run, three additional RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 20-0 win over the Reds.

Contreras opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first and added two more RBI during Milwaukee's eight-run fifth inning. The star backstop capped the scoring in emphatic fashion, crushing a three-run homer off position player Jose Trevino in the eighth to make it 20-0. The blast was Contreras' 16th of the season. He's gone yard in three of his last five games and is hitting .282 with a .915 OPS across nine games since the beginning of September.

Houck (elbow) allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out four over three innings for Double-A Portland on Friday.

Houck stretched out to 48 pitches after he was limited to 20 pitches during his first rehab outing. The right-hander's next step is an outing for Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

Crochet (lat) threw 25 pitches during a side session Friday, MLB.com reports.

It was Crochet's third side session but carried some significance, as it was the left-hander's first on the main mound at Fenway Park while donning his home white Red Sox uniform. He continued to increase his intensity -- up to 80-to-90 percent -- and introduced his sweeper during the session. Crochet is scheduled to throw one more bullpen session early next week before potentially facing live hitters.

Turang went 3-for-3 with a double, a three-run home run, an additional RBI, two additional runs scored and a walk in Friday's 20-0 win over the Reds.

Turang smacked a three-run shot off Andrew Abbott in the second inning and later added an RBI double in the fifth, ultimately ending just a triple shy of the cycle. The four RBI allowed Turang to reach the 90-RBI threshold, and he also matched his previous career-high mark in homers with 18 thanks to his second-inning blast. The star second baseman has been hit-or-miss so far in September. Through 10 games, he has five multi-hit performances and five hitless games, but overall he is hitting .394 with a 1.130 OPS since the beginning of the month.

Abbott (6-11) took the loss Friday against the Brewers after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits over two innings. He didn't issue a walk or record a strikeout.

Abbott endured his shortest start of the season as Milwaukee overwhelmed him almost immediately. The left-hander surrendered two runs in the first before the Brewers erupted for six in the second, including three-run and two-run homers from Brice Turang and Jake Bauers, respectively. Abbott also allowed nine of the 14 batters he faced to reach safely. He's been trending in the wrong direction of late, as he's allowed at least seven earned runs in two of his last three outings. His ERA jumped to 4.84 following this disastrous outing, and he also owns a 6.20 ERA with a 1.56 WHIP since the All-Star break. Abbott is scheduled to make his next start against the Dodgers at home.

Contreras (hamstring) served as the designated hitter and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for Double-A Portland on Friday.

Contreras, who kicked off a rehab assignment Friday, is scheduled to play first base for the Sea Dogs on Saturday. The Red Sox will reassess where he's at following Saturday's game.

Riley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Phillies.

Riley launched his seventh career home run off Aaron Nola in the seventh inning. The 29-year-old is hitting .235 over 10 September games, though he's homered twice with seven RBI in that span. For the year, he's slashing .223/.294/.369 with 17 long balls, 68 RBI, 59 runs scored and nine steals across 578 plate appearances.
