MLB Player News

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Unavailable Saturday

Iglesias was not available to pitch Saturday against the Phillies due to shoulder discomfort, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

The positive news is that the injury isn't related to throwing, as Iglesias slept on his shoulder wrong. He could be available Sunday, though his status still isn't very clear. Robert Suarez picked up a save Saturday night in Iglesias's absence.

  • White Sox's Munetaka Murakami: Swats seventh homer, walks thrice

Murakami went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and three walks in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Athletics.

Murakami entered play Saturday with a putrid .063 average and 4:10 BB:K across 21 plate appearances against left-handed pitching. Facing lefty Hogan Harris in the top of the seventh inning, Murakami took him deep to center field. Both of his hits against left-handers this season are home runs, and overall the Japanese slugger is slashing .209/.386/.522 with seven homers, 14 RBI, 15 runs scored and a 20:29 BB:K across his first 88 major-league plate appearances. Murakami still needs to cut down on his 33 percent strikeout rate, but a 23 percent walk rate and his power have made up for the swing-and-miss thus far.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Works around traffic in no-decision

Gallen took a no-decision Saturday against the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on nine hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

Gallen was aggressive in attacking the zone Saturday, perhaps to a fault, considering he gave up a season-high nine hits while pouring in 63 of his 88 pitches for strikes. Although the veteran right-hander has managed to limit the damage while posting a 3.51 ERA on the year, he hasn't been particularly effective at preventing traffic while logging a 1.48 WHIP over his first 25.2 innings. Gallen has also fanned fewer than five in four of his first five starts, so he'll be looking for more punchouts his next time out versus San Diego.

  • Erick Fedde SP | CHW

White Sox's Erick Fedde: Yields three runs over 4.2 innings

Fedde didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Athletics, allowing three runs on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts across 4.2 innings.

Fedde struggled with his control and was probably fortunate to not have a worse result, as multiple walks are a recipe for disaster with his command-centric approach. Jacob Wilson took Fedde deep for a solo homer in the second inning, the third homer he's allowed in four starts. Fedde will carry a 3.92 ERA and 15:7 K:BB across 20.2 innings into his next start at home against the Nationals.

  • Joey Loperfido OF | HOU

Astros' Joey Loperfido: Likely headed for IL

Manager Joe Espada said Loperfido (quadriceps) will likely be placed on the injured list, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Loperfido suffered a quad injury in Friday's game against the Cardinals and was held out of the lineup Saturday. An official transaction could be coming on Sunday, though a more detailed diagnosis and timeline for return remain unclear.

  • Athletics' Lawrence Butler: Swipes two bags Saturday

Butler went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two walks, two stolen bases and one run scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.

Butler tried to turn a leadoff double into a triple in the bottom of the eighth inning but was thrown out at third base. His two stolen bases were his second and third thefts of the season. It's been a slow start to the 2026 campaign for Butler, who is slashing just .197/.274/.318 with four extra-base hits -- including a pair of homers -- seven RBI, eight runs scored, three steals and a 7:18 BB:K across 73 plate appearances.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Braves' Chris Sale: Goes seven strong for fourth win

Sale (4-1) earned the win against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings.

Sale surrendered a solo homer in the second inning but was otherwise dominant, throwing 73 of 101 pitches for strikes and logging six scoreless frames. Aside from a six-run clunker April 6, the veteran southpaw has yielded just three earned runs across four quality starts this season. He'll carry a 2.79 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 29:7 K:BB across 29 innings into a road matchup against the Nationals next week.

  • Jacob Wilson SS | ATH

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Swats second homer in win

Wilson went 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.

After going homer-less in the first 17 games of the season, Wilson has now gone deep in two of the last four contests after he took an Erick Fedde cutter over the wall in the second inning. Wilson hit just .196 across the first 12 games this season but is 12-for-25 (.480) over his last eight contests. He has six multi-hit games in that span and is now slashing .256/.264/.360 with two homers, 10 RBI, nine runs scored, one stolen base and a 1:11 BB:K across 87 trips to the plate.

  • Felix Reyes RF | PHI

Phillies' Felix Reyes: Homers in debut

Reyes went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Atlanta.

The 25-year-old started in left field and homered off Chris Sale in his first major-league at-bat, launching a 2-0 fastball into the right-field seats. Reyes slashed .333/.345/.654 across 84 plate appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley to begin the year and should draw most of his opportunities against lefties, a role previously held by the recently demoted Otto Kemp.

  • Nick Kurtz 1B | ATH

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Homers, draws three walks in win

Kurtz went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and three walks in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the White Sox.

With the Athletics trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, Kurtz took Jordan Leasure deep for a two-run shot to tie the game. It was just Kurtz's second homer of the season, and he's now driven in six runs over the last three contests. After batting .083 over the first seven games of the season, Kurtz has five multi-hit games over his last 13 contests and is now slashing .235/.429/.368 with two long balls, nine RBI, nine runs scored, two stolen bases and a 23:30 BB:K across 91 plate appearances.
