Dansby Swanson SS | CHC
Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Officially placed on 10-day IL
The Cubs placed Swanson (oblique) on the 10-day injured list Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Swanson is facing a 4-to-6 week recovery timeline due to a Grade 2 left oblique strain that he suffered during the Cubs' 11-4 loss to the Cardinals. Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com, the Cubs are hoping that Swanson's timeline is closer to four weeks, which would put him on track to return by mid-September with a couple of weeks left before the playoff begins, if the Cubs qualify. The Cubs selected Owen Miller's contract from Triple-A Iowa to provide infield depth, but Nico Hoerner figures to be Chicago's everyday shortstop for as long as Swanson is on the shelf.

Henry Davis C | PIT
Pirates' Henry Davis: Serving as primary backstop
Davis will start at catcher and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Tigers.
With fellow backstop Endy Rodriguez (hip) recently returning to the injured list, Davis has re-emerged as the Pirates' top option behind the dish. He'll pick up his seventh start in nine games while the Pirates open up a three-game set versus the Tigers. Davis is slashing just .143/.219/.143 with no extra-base hits, two RBI and two runs since the start of August, so he's not doing much to take advantage of his larger share of playing time.

Kent Emanuel SP | CIN
Reds' Kent Emanuel: DFA'd after spot start
The Reds designated Emanuel for assignment Monday.
Emanuel started the first game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Cardinals and did his job in holding them to two runs over five innings. He look a tough-luck loss, however, and will now exit the 26-man and 40-man rosters. There's a good chance Emanuel clears waivers, though he would have the ability to elect free agency at that point since he's been outrighted previously.

Javier Assad RP | CHC
Cubs' Javier Assad: Back with big club
The Cubs recalled Assad from Triple-A Iowa on Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Assad was optioned to Triple-A on Sunday, but he's back with the Cubs one day later after the big club placed Edward Cabrera (blister) on the 15-day injured list. Prior to being sent down to the minors, Assad was moved to the bullpen after the Cubs acquired Kevin Gausman and Clay Holmes before the Aug. 3 trade deadline. However, Assad -- who has started in 10 of 21 major-league games this season -- could return to the team's rotation following Cabrera's recent injury.

Nick Yorke 3B | PIT
Pirates' Nick Yorke: Drawing second straight start
Yorke will start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Tigers.
Yorke will be awarded a second straight start at the hot corner after he shined in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Red Sox upon being called from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier in the day. While batting out of the No. 7 spot, Yorke went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and three RBI. Yorke will likely handle a utility role while he's up with the Pirates and should get most of his playing time against left-handed pitching.

Edward Cabrera SP | CHC
Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Lands on IL with finger blister
The Cubs placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a right middle finger blister, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Cabrera was cleared to return Sunday from a nearly two-month stint on the injured list due to a left hamstring strain. However, he pitched through a finger blister during his start against the Cardinals, and he took the loss after allowing seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two across 3.2 innings. Cabrera's new injury will keep him shelved until at least early September, though the Cubs will have a better sense of the 28-year-old right-hander's return timeline once he's cleared to begin a throwing program. Per Tony Andracki of Marquee Sports Network, the plan moving forward is for Cabrera to work his way back as a reliever following his third stint on the IL, so Javier Assad -- who was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move -- figures to be the Cubs' fifth man in the rotation.

Jason Adam RP | SD
Padres' Jason Adam: Begins playing light catch
Adam (shoulder) played light catch from 90 feet Monday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
Adam said afterward that he "felt clean, I felt no pain, so really good." It's the first time he's done any throwing since he went down with a right shoulder strain in early July. He'll need some time to get built back up, but Adam should rejoin the Padres' bullpen sometime in September if all goes well.

Spencer Torkelson 1B | DET
Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Idle for series opener in Pittsburgh
Torkelson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
After putting together an eight-game hitting streak from Aug. 6 through Friday while getting on base at a .529 clip during that stretch, Torkelson closed out the Tigers' weekend series versus the White Sox with a whimper, going 0-for-7 with a walk in the final two contests. The Tigers will give Torkelson a night off to regroup, with Colt Keith spelling him at first base Monday.

Andrew Nardi RP | MIA
Marlins' Andrew Nardi: Headed for elbow surgery
The Marlins announced Monday that Nardi (rib) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left elbow in the near future, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Miami placed Nardi on the injured list May 30 due to a left rib cage stress reaction, but that injury is now viewed as a lesser concern after he experienced elbow discomfort while working his way through a throwing program earlier this month. After receiving a consultation last week from renowned arm specialist Dr. Keith Meister last week, Nardi has decided to undergo surgery to address the elbow injury. The type of procedure won't be known until after the operation is completed, but assuming Nardi requires Tommy John or internal brace surgery -- or a hybrid of the two -- he'll likely miss the entire 2027 season. The upcoming elbow surgery is the latest in a long line of health-related setbacks for the reliever, who previously missed the entire 2025 campaign due to a lower-back injury.
