Young (hand) will start in center field and bat eighth Friday against the Athletics.

Young has missed five of the Nationals' 10 games since the beginning of July due to a left hand injury, but he appears to be feeling better after getting four days off to heal during the All-Star break. The 26-year-old outfielder has gone 4-for-13 with three walks, an RBI, two runs and a steal this month when healthy, and he'll aim to remain hot to begin the second half.

Ruiz isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Ruiz will grab a seat on the bench Friday after going just 4-for-21 at the plate since the beginning of July. Harry Ford will fill in as Washington's catcher and bat sixth.

The Padres optioned Duran to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

With Freddy Fermin (head) now back from the injured list, the Padres will send Duran back down to the minors to avoid carrying three catchers on their active roster. The 28-year-old backstop has slashed just .146/.222/.305 across 91 plate appearances with the big club this season but would likely return to San Diego if the Friars' catcher depth is tested again later in the year.

The Padres reinstated Fermin (head) from the injured list Friday.

Fermin has been on the shelf since July 3 with a head bruise but began playing in rehab games July 8 and has since gone 3-for-12 with a walk and two RBI in three contests. Now fully healthy, he'll return to the active roster for the start of the second half but will remain on the bench Friday while Luis Campusano starts behind the plate. Rodolfo Duran was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Eovaldi is dealing with an illness but is lined up to start against Atlanta on Sunday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

It looks like Eovaldi picked something up over the All-Star break, but he may not end up missing significant time as long as he's cleared to start in Sunday's series finale. The veteran right-hander posted a 9-7 record across 18 starts in the first half of the regular season, along with a 4.04 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 120:26 K:BB across 111.1 innings.

DeGrom (glute) will throw a bullpen session Saturday and will likely make his next start during the Rangers' home series against the White Sox that begins Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Landry initially reported Thursday that deGrom was lined up to face Atlanta on Sunday, but it looks like the veteran right-hander needs a little bit more time to recover. He is dealing with a mild left glute strain that he picked up prior to the All-Star break, but the injury is not severe enough for him to require a stint on the injured list.

Refsnyder (knee) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.

Refsnyder landed on the 10-day IL in late June due to right knee inflammation. The veteran outfielder has progressed enough in his recovery to go on a rehab assignment, which could have him back in the majors by late July or early August. Refsnyder has struggled at the plate this season, posting a .422 OPS with three home runs and nine RBI across 119 plate appearances.

Perdomo (hand) will start at shortstop and bat second Friday against the Cardinals, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.

Perdomo received a cortisone shot in his left hand during the All-Star break to combat hand issues that he's dealt with over the course of his career, but it won't cause him to miss any games as the D-backs begin their second-half schedule. The 26-year-old has taken a step back this season after enjoying a breakout campaign in 2025, and he's slashing just .225/.311/.325 in 10 games since the beginning of July.

Allen will start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Allen will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to serve as the Guardians' 27th man Saturday, with the left-hander starting in Game 2 while Gavin Williams starts in Game 1. It'll be the second major-league outing of the season for Allen, with his first taking place May 25 against the Nationals, when he allowed two unearned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out seven across four innings. He's started in 16 games in Triple-A, where he has a 4-3 record and a 4.39 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 95:31 K:BB across 80 innings.

Marte isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies.

After going 3-for-16 in his final five games before the All-Star break, Marte will retreat to the bench Friday while JJ Bleday, TJ Friedl and Spencer Steer form the Reds' outfield trio.
