The Celtics have not ruled Tatum (Achilles) out for the 2025-26 season, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. Charania adds that the Celtics are "cautiously optimistic" about Tatum returning later in the season. Tatum himself is on record saying he isn't ruling out a return, and by all accounts, his rehab is going swimmingly. "Clearly Jayson Tatum has a goal in his mind that he wants to play," Charania said. "Whether he can get there by the time we're in February, March or April, we'll see." How Boston performs this season is likely to factor into Tatum's decision as well, making this an intriguing storyline to watch.

Tatum (Achilles) said Tuesday that he's not ruling out a return in 2025-26, Zack Cox of the Boston Herald reports. "I haven't said I'm not playing this season," Tatum said. "The most important thing is a full recovery, not rushing at all. But also, I don't go to rehab six days a week for nothing." Tatum ruptured his Achilles on May 12 and underwent surgery the following day, and while he has a target date in his mind, he's not ready to reveal it. Officially, the Celtics haven't placed a timetable on Tatum, and it will ultimately come down to the medical staff as to whether or not he'll be given the green light.

Tatum will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. The Celtics will be without Tatum for the rest of these NBA playoffs, and it's a strong possibility he misses all of next season as well. The superstar forward went down with the injury during Game 4 against the Knicks, with the team fearing the worst. The defending NBA champions will have to press on without their best player while facing a 3-1 series deficit heading into Game 5.

Tatum didn't return to Monday's 121-113 loss to the Knicks in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals due to an apparent right lower-leg injury and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Justin Turpin of WEEI.com reports. Tatum suffered a non-contact injury while pursuing a loose ball and was helped off the court with 2:58 remaining in the fourth quarter. The superstar forward was unable to put any weight on his right leg and required a wheelchair to get to the Boston locker room. He finished the game with 42 points (16-28 FG, 7-16 3Pt, 3-3 FT), eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks across 40 minutes. The Celtics are expected to provide an update on Tatum's status for Wednesday's win-or-go-home Game 5 at some point Tuesday.
