  Robinson (ankle) has yet to begin running at full speed but is expected to be cleared for full practice at some point in January, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. Robinson is recovering from offseason ankle surgery but appears to still be multiple weeks from suiting up for games. The 26-year-old big man hasn't appeared in a game this season, allowing for Precious Achiuwa to operate as the Knicks' backup center. Robinson shouldn't be expected back until at least late January.

  Robinson (foot) is unlikely to be cleared for game action until "at least late January," Shams Charania reported Wednesday on ESPN's "NBA Today" program. Robinson has been sidelined all season after requiring a pair of procedures on his left ankle, with the most recent surgery coming back in mid-May. The 26-year-old has yet to be cleared for practice, and the Knicks apparently aren't planning on the big man being ready to contribute for at least another month or two. Karl-Anthony Towns has started at center all season after mostly playing power forward with Minnesota in 2023-24, and the Knicks are likely envisioning Robinson filling a backup role once he's back up to full speed. In the meantime, Precious Achiuwa will likely serve as Towns' primary backup, while also occasionally sharing the court with him.

  Robinson (ankle) has not been cleared to begin basketball activities, with coach Tom Thibodeau noting that the big man is only shooting thus far, Steve Popper of Newsday reports. Robinson' troublesome left ankle, which was most recently surgically repaired in May, continues to yield a slow return to action, although no setbacks have been reported. Robinson's game is solely dependent on his athleticism and movement skills defensively, so a comprehensive increase in on-court reps will be needed prior to estimating his return.

  Robinson (ankle) will not be ready for the beginning of the NBA season, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. Robinson is coming off two procedures on his left ankle, with the most recent surgery taking place on May 14. According to Begley, a return in December or January could be on the table depending on how the rehab process goes, as neither Robinson nor the Knicks want to rush the process to make sure that the center is at full strength before getting clearance. With Robinson sidelined to begin the season, Julius Randle could spend plenty of time at center in smaller lineups, while Precious Achiuwa and Jericho Sims will have more opportunities to earn meaningful minutes.

• Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Gets second surgery on ankle

  Robinson underwent surgery Monday to address a stress injury to his left ankle, Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reports. The procedure was Robinson's second of the season on the left ankle, which he reinjured during the Knicks' first-round playoff series victory over the 76ers. Robinson previously underwent surgery in December after suffering a stress fracture to the ankle and missed 50 games before returning to action in late March. He played in just 16 games (including playoffs) following his return before the Knicks announced last Tuesday that Robinson would be re-evaluated in 6-to-8 weeks after aggravating the injury. It's unclear if that re-evaluation timeline still holds now that he's had surgery, but in any case, Robinson won't be available for the remainder of the Knicks' playoff run. He'll turn his focus toward getting back to full health for training camp in October.
