  • Spurs' Victor Wembanyama: Good to go for Thursday

Wembanyama (rest) isn't listed on the injury report for Thursday's regular-season opener against the Mavericks.

As expected, Wembanyama is cleared to suit up for the regular-season opener after resting during the Spurs' preseason finale. As a rookie, Wembanyama averaged 3.6 blocks and 1.8 three-pointers per game across 71 regular-season appearances.

  • Joel Embiid C | PHI

76ers' Joel Embiid: League to launch an investigation

Embiid (knee), who has already been ruled out for Wednesday's season-opener versus Milwaukee, will remain out Friday versus Toronto and Sunday versus Indiana. His "player participation" in the 76ers' health management protocols will be investigated by the league in the coming days, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

The league's investigation will focus on the 76ers' organization as opposed to Embiid himself, but the 30-year-old big man has been the subject of the league's health and reporting guidelines in the past. Philadelphia was fined last season for failing to report his pregame status in a timely manner, and Embiid's current trajectory to never play back-to-backs the rest of his career is substantive. The overall lack of activity combined with organizational ambiguity throughout the offseason appears to be generating more friction with the league office.

  • Chet Holmgren PF | OKC

    Thunder's Chet Holmgren: Transactional formality

Holmgren's fourth-year team option was exercised by Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Holmgren displayed two-way excellence last season, posting a 63.2 true-shooting percentage while generating 2.9 steals-plus-blocks per game in his first season of NBA action. He's now locked up with the Thunder through the 2025-26 season.

  • Maxi Kleber C | LAL

Mavericks' Maxi Kleber: Cleared to play

Kleber (ankle) has been cleared to play in Thursday's game against the Spurs, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Kleber is no longer appearing on the injury report after sitting out the entire preseason. He's been able to practice since Oct. 18, but it's unclear if he'll face any restrictions on Opening Night.

  • Al Horford C | GS

Celtics' Al Horford: Receives ring and 26 minutes of run

Horford registered 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-5 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal in 30 minutes during Tuesday's 132-109 win over New York.

After crowning his 18-year NBA career by receiving his first NBA championship ring, Horford started for the Celtics and did an excellent job of guarding new Knick center Karl-Anthony Towns. Horford was a major part of an early game run that put Boston up 43 to 24 after the first quarter. The Celtics have their first back-to-back starting November 1st. Expect Boston to rest Big Al for one of those two games, which are both in Charlotte.

  • Rudy Gobert C | MIN

Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Logs double-double in opener

Gobert supplied 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-4 FT), 14 rebounds, two assists and one block across 35 minutes during Tuesday's 110-103 loss to the Lakers.

Gobert grabbed his share of rebounds, but he had no answer for Anthony Davis in the paint. The combination of Gobert and Julius Randle needs some time to develop, as the trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks happened less than a month ago. It will take a few games for the duo to gain a better understanding of their roles in the new scheme, but Gobert should continue to be a nightly double-double threat.

  • Lakers' Anthony Davis: Phenomenal season debut in victory

Davis closed Tuesday's 110-103 win over the Timberwolves with 36 points (11-23 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 13-15 FT), 16 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal in 38 minutes.

Davis was dominant on both sides of the ball, and the duo of Rudy Gobert and Julius Randle was unable to contain him. Although Davis was the top producer, the entire roster performed well in their roles and played with an ease and confidence that were often absent last season. If Davis can stay healthy, an MVP-worthy season could be on the horizon.

  • Lakers' Anthony Davis: Double-doubles in win

Davis tallied 36 points (11-23 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 13-15 FT), 16 rebounds, four rebounds, three blocks and one steal in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 110-103 win over the Timberwolves.

Davis set the tone for the Lakers' season with a dominant outing in which he led the team in points, rebounds, blocks and minutes played. The 31-year-old big man recorded his 100th career game with at least 25 points and 15 rebounds. As LeBron James continues to age, Davis should keep receiving more of the offensive burden.

  • Rudy Gobert C | MIN

Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Signs three-year extension

The Timberwolves signed Gobert to a three-year, $110 million extension Tuesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.

After trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks, Gobert will likely remain with the club for the long haul after this extension. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year averaged a double-double for the eighth consecutive season in the 2023-24 campaign. Last season, Gobert averaged 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds and 2.8 combined steals plus blocks across 34.1 minutes per game in 76 regular-season appearances. The 32-year-old is expected to decline his player option for the 2025-26 season, allowing him to receive a fresh extension through the 2027-28 season, according to Charania.

  • Trail Blazers' Robert Williams: Officially out Wednesday

Williams (hamstring) has been ruled out for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Warriors.

The big man will begin the season on the sidelines, though the club is hopeful he will return to game action soon, according to Sean Highkin of RoseGardenReport.com. If the 27-year-old misses additional time, Donovan Clingan and Duop Reath are candidates for more playing time. Williams' next chance to suit up will come Friday against New Orleans.
