Who should be the No. 1 Fantasy wide receiver this season? And is that player even considered the best receiver in the NFL? It's a fascinating topic this year in Fantasy and reality, and hopefully, we'll give you some clarity to the biggest decision you might have to make in Round 1.

Welcome to the Elite Eight. These are the consensus top eight receivers in our CBS Sports rankings: CeeDee LambTyreek HillJustin JeffersonJa'Marr ChaseAmon-Ra St. BrownA.J. BrownGarrett Wilson and Puka Nacua. You can make a strong argument that all of them should be selected in the first round this season -- they're that good.

But who should go first of those eight receivers? And do all of them have the chance to finish as the best eight receivers this season? There are certainly other contenders to the throne, including Marvin Harrison Jr.Chris OlaveDrake LondonJaylen WaddleMichael Pittman Jr., Davante AdamsMike EvansBrandon AiyukNico CollinsDeebo Samuel and Cooper Kupp, among others.

We've identified these eight as the best of the bunch either based on what they have done or what they should be able to accomplish this season, which you can read about in-depth in this article. And based on the inexact science of a Twitter/X poll with more than 3,000 votes, the best Fantasy receiver this season should be Lamb (32.5 percent), followed by Hill (29.4 percent), Jefferson (24.2 percent) and Chase (13.9 percent). That happens to be our order as well.

However, as far as what the population on Twitter/X think about who is the best receiver in the NFL (non-Fantasy), the winner is Jefferson with an overwhelming 56.8 percent of the more than 3,000 votes. Hill was second (22.1 percent), Lamb was third (13.4 percent) and Chase was fourth (7.8 percent).

We'll break this into eight parts that you can find on CBSSports.com/FantasyFootball in the coming days. Today, we'll focus on Part 5 -- featuring Amon-Ra St. Brown and his case to be the No. 1 wide receiver in Fantasy for 2024. Earlier, we made the case for Lamb as the 1.1 WR here.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Lions

  •  2023 stats: 119 catches for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns on 164 targets
  • Stats that grab you: St. Brown has more receiving yards in the first 40 games of his career (2,738) than former Lions Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson (2,694). ... Since coming into the NFL in 2021, St. Brown ranks fifth in receptions (318), eighth in receiving yards (3,588) and 15th in touchdown catches (21) over the past three seasons. ... In 2023, St. Brown was fifth in the NFL in targets (164), target share (30.2 percent), target rate (29.2 percent) and slot snaps (472). He was also third in the NFL in red-zone targets (25) and second in yards after the catch (668).
  • Quote to note: "What doesn't make him special? Everything he does is why he's who he is. His work ethic, his desire to be good, his will to overcome, the amount of film that he watches, the pre-practice warmup, the post-practice routine that he has. It's just everything about him is about being the best player he can possibly be. He wants to be the best, and everything he does, it's not lip service. He literally does everything he can possibly do to be the best, and that's why. It's no secret. Just walk around with him. Go live with him for a while if you really want to know what it looks like. Half of the guys say, 'Well, I'm going to be great,' and they would go and they would quit Day 2 or Day 3. This guy just keeps going." -- Lions coach Dan Campbell to CBS Sports about St. Brown at the NFL owners meeting.
  • The breakdown: St. Brown has been exceptional since joining the Lions in 2021, and his Fantasy production has increased every season from 13.4 PPR points per game to 16.7 to 20.7 last year. We hope his third-year breakout campaign in 2023 will continue to be the norm, and he was among six receivers last season to average at least 10 targets per game. The Lions have 64 vacated targets with Josh Reynolds now in Denver. While most of those should be distributed to the rest of Detroit's receiving corps -- with most of it hopefully going to Jameson Williams -- St. Brown might get even more attention from Jared Goff. Ben Johnson remaining as the offensive coordinator for the Lions is a plus, and St. Brown feels like one of the safest selections in Round 1 this year.
