  • Smith is the clear top quarterback for the Jets, but a battle between Bailey Zappe, Cade Klubnik and Brady Cook is ongoing for the second spot on the depth chart, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Smith will likely dominate first-team reps leading up to the regular season, but the Jets will use training camp and preseason play to evaluate their backup options. Of the team's other quarterbacks, Klubnik probably has the best chance of seeing the field eventually in 2026, as the Jets could be motivated to evaluate their 2026 fourth-round pick in meaningful game situations if the team falls out of playoff contention again on the heels of a 3-14 season in 2025.

  • Smith's case relating to an accusation of battery in June is now considered inactive by the Town of Davie Police Department, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. While Smith is no longer being actively investigated by Florida police relating to the June incident, it remains to be seen whether he'll face any form of discipline from the NFL. The 35-year-old quarterback is set to kick off training camp as the Jets' undisputed starting quarterback. Cade Klubnik (back), Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe will compete for the backup role.

  • Smith is being investigated in relation to a Sunday afternoon incident in which a woman accused him of battery, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports. Per Cimini, a Davie, Florida police spokesperson noted Tuesday: "We were informed (Monday) evening that, during review, it was determined that this case is being further investigated by detectives. It is active and we cannot release any additional information at this time." Smith was acquired in a March trade with the Raiders and was subsequently named the Jets' starting quarterback for 2026. The team's training camp is set to open July 25th for rookies and July 28 for veteran players.

  • Jets' Geno Smith: Joining Jets via trade
    By RotoWire

The Jets have agreed to a trade with the Raiders to acquire Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The next chapter of Smith's career will feature his return to the team that selected him in the second round of the 2013 Draft. Of course, it wasn't until his stint as a starter with Seattle from 2022-24 that Smith finally blossomed, earning two Pro Bowl berths and throwing for over 4,000 yards on two occasions. The 35-year-old signal-caller fell to earth while playing behind Las Vegas' porous offensive line in 2025, but the Jets hope the veteran can find his footing again in New York, where he will benefit not only from superior protection behind a line anchored by tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, but also a pair of valuable offensive playmakers in WR Garrett Wilson (knee) and RB Breece Hall (knee). Smith's arrival also confirms that Justin Fields (knee) is no longer in the team's plans.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Set to be released
    By RotoWire

Barring a trade, the Raiders will release Smith (ankle) prior to the start of the new league year March 11, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Smith, who is now entering his age-36 season, will depart Las Vegas after just one season with the team, as the Raiders are widely projected to select a new starting quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. After a resurgent three-year stint in Seattle from 2022-24, Smith's inaugural campaign with Las Vegas represented a significant decline, as he completed 67 percent of his passes for just 3,025 yards and a 19:17 TD:INT. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Raiders have aggressively worked to manufacture a potential trade for Smith in recent days, but it's likelier the veteran signal-caller draws interest on the free-agent market than in a scenario where suitors have to part with draft capital to acquire him. Smith missed Week 18 due to an ankle issue but does not appear to still be dealing with any injury, given he's been the subject of trade talks.
