  Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that Lawrence (foot) will not be designated for return from injured reserve this week, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. Lawrence has been on IR since Oct. 2 and has missed the mandatory four games, but the defensive end hasn't yet made enough progress in his recovery from a right foot sprain to practice. Whenever Lawrence is designated for return from IR, the Cowboys will have 21 days to evaluate him before he would need to added back to the 53-man roster.

The veteran pass rusher was expected to need roughly four weeks to recover from a mid-foot sprain, so his placement on injured reserve makes sense.

Lawrence going on IR would be a rational expectation considering Friday's report that he suffered a mid-foot sprain and would need at least four weeks to recover. Assuming he does land on IR, he'll be forced to miss at least the next four games, so the timelines correlate. Moore also reports that the team plans to elevate Carl Lawson from the practice squad before this Sunday's matchup with the Steelers to bolster the Cowboys' depth on the edges with Lawrence likely out.

  Lawrence (foot) is expected to be out at least four weeks with a midfoot sprain, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Lawrence is a prime candidate to be placed on injured reserve, and he's expected to be reevaluated after four weeks. Head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that he considers Lawrence's injury to be worse than that of Micah Parsons (ankle), who was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. Chauncey Golston and Marshawn Kneeland are two candidates to see an increase in workload on the defensive line moving forward.

  Lawrence (foot) is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Giants, Saad Yousuf of The Athletic reports. The defensive end made two tackles, including 1.0 sacks, before exiting. Lawrence played more than 50 percent of the defensive snaps in each of Dallas' first three regular-season games, recording 12 tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and a forced fumble.
