Head coach Raheem Morris told reporters Thursday that he expects Simmons to be ready for the Falcons' Week 1 game against the Steelers, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports. Simmons inked a one-year, $8 million deal with the Falcons just two weeks ago, but he's still expected to be ready to play in Atlanta's Week 1 contest Sept. 8. The veteran safety appeared in 15 regular-season games with the Broncos last season, recording 70 total tackles and eight passes defended, including three interceptions, while receiving second-team All-Pro honors. He and Jessie Bates are expected to be one of, if not the best, safety duos in the entire league in 2024.

Simmons finished Sunday's 16-9 win over the Chargers with six solo tackles. Simmons managed to suit up for Week 17 after battling through an illness and played 62 defensive snaps. He's up to 67 total tackles over 14 games this season and is two shy of matching his total from 2022.

Simmons had six tackles (three solo), including one sack, and a forced fumble in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers. Simmons strip-sacked backup quarterback Easton Stick late in the fourth quarter for a 10-yard loss, causing a fumble which was recovered by Austin Ekeler. Simmons played every single defensive snap for the third straight game, and although his tackle numbers aren't as high as previous seasons, he's still provided a steady, veteran presence in the Denver secondary.

Simmons (hip) was a full participant in practice Thursday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports. The safety participated on a limited basis during Wednesday's session. Simmons' full practice Thursday would seem to indicate that he's on track to play Sunday against the Chiefs. The three-time All-Pro has 28 tackles and an interception in five starts this season.

Simmons (hip) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports. It's not obvious at this point when Simmons picked up the injury or how severe it is. Either way, he'll probably need to return to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a chance to play Sunday versus Kansas City.
