Mostert didn't practice leading up to Miami's Sept. 12 loss to the Bills, but with the added recovery time afforded to him by the Dolphins playing on Thursday in Week 2, he's been seeing a daily uptick in progress, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network. If Mostert can maintain limited activity in practices Thursday or Friday or even upgrade to full participation, he'll have a good chance at returning to action Sunday versus the Seahawks.

The Dolphins are not expected to place Mostert (chest), who has already been ruled out for Thursday's divisional matchup against the Bills, on injured reserve, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Mostert will miss Week 2 due to a chest injury sustained in Miami's season-opening win over Jacksonville, but the veteran back doesn't appear to be dealing with a long-term issue. His next chance to play will come on the road against Seattle in Week 3, on Sunday, Sept. 22. Mostert didn't practice in any capacity leading up to his being ruled out against Buffalo, and in Week 1 he logged just six carries for nine yards, plus two catches for 10 yards (on three targets). If rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright or veteran Jeff Wilson manages to truly impress with increased opportunity, fantasy managers may have difficulty being confident relying on on Mostert in starting lineups until he shows more of the upside he did in his 21-TD 2023 campaign.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Mostert (chest) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Bills, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Mostert sustained the chest injury in the Dolphins' season-opening win over the Jaguars on Sunday, with Furones relaying that the veteran running back attempted to play through the issue. The Dolphins won't rush Mostert back on the field in a short week, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relays that change-of-pace back De'Von Achane (ankle) is considered a game-time decision for Thursday. Those developments could pave the way for veteran Jeff Wilson and rookie fourth-round pick Jaylen Wright to handle key backfield roles versus Buffalo. McDaniel declined to offer a timetable for Mostert's recovery, but said that "my sense is, it's not something that time won't take care of," per Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald. The Dolphins will presumably reassesses Mostert's status following Thursday's game before a clearer picture regarding his availability for a Week 3 matchup with the Seahawks on Sept. 22 emerges.

The Dolphins have labeled Mostert as a non-participant on both of their first two Week 2 injury reports after he logged 28 snaps and carried six times for nine yards while adding two receptions for 10 yards on three targets in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Jaguars. While the team hasn't suggested that Mostert's injury is a major concern, he may need to get in some listed practice activity Wednesday to avoid carrying an injury designation into Thursday's game against the Bills.
