Jones completed 19 of 31 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown and one interception while adding one rush for four yards in the Colts' 41-23 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. Jones' middling final line underscored the type of afternoon it was for the Colts' offense overall, which largely struggled outside of some typically strong play on the part of Jonathan Taylor. Jones averaged only 5.4 yards per attempt and took two sacks while finishing with a paltry QB rating of 28.7. The one highlight of Jones' afternoon came late, as he hit Tyler Warren for a nine-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Jones may progressively look better the further removed he is from last year's Achilles tear, but he has another tough assignment in Week 2 on the road against the Chiefs next Sunday night.

Jones was crisp in practice throughout training camp, 107.5 The Fan reports. Jones has put last season's Achilles injury behind him and turned in a strong training camp as he gets ready for 2026. Despite not having a full complement of weapons at his disposal given absences from Josh Downs (calf), Alec Pierce (ankle) and Tyler Warren (groin) and the late signing of Keenan Allen, Jones still impressed. The Colts open their season Sept. 13 at home against Baltimore.

Jones won't play in the preseason, according to Jonathan Jones of CBSSports.com. By all accounts, Jones' recovery from the torn right Achilles that he suffered in Week 14 last season has gone well, but the Colts will play it safe with their starting QB. Per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, Anthony Richardson will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots and play the first half, while Riley Leonard will work in the second half, an arrangement that is in line to be reversed in the team's second exhibition tilt against Atlanta.

Jones has not missed a single snap with the first-team offense and has not taken any days off from practice in training camp, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports. Jones tore his Achilles tendon in December of last season, but that hasn't stopped him from being a pull participant in training camp practices despite recently being cleared to take part in team drills. The veteran quarterback was in the midst of a career year before sustaining the severe injury and finished the 2025 regular season having completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions while turning 45 carries into 164 yards and five scores across 13 games. Jones is well on track to play in Week 1 against the Ravens on Sunday, Sept. 13.

On the subject of his Achilles rehab, Jones said Friday, "I'm doing everything. Cleared to do everything. I think it's just about, at this point, sharpening that," James Boyd of The Athletic reports. That said, Jones acknowledges the injury he sustained Dec. 7 last year is still on his mind, noting on that front, "you're still thinking about it. I think (you) probably will until you get playing." An important milestone in the QB's ongoing recovery will be a return to 11-on-11 drills, with Coach Shane Steichen having previously noted that the plan is for Jones to resume work in those drills when training camp begins later this month.
