The Bills claimed Savage off waivers from the Commanders on Friday. The veteran safety was waived by the Commanders on Thursday after being a healthy scratch for their Week 13 overtime loss to the Broncos. Savage gives the Bills added depth in the secondary, which is needed after Darius Slay -- whom Buffalo claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh on Wednesday -- refused to report to team facilities. Across 10 regular-season games with the Commanders (eight games) and the Jaguars (two games), Savage has accumulated 16 tackles (10 solo), two pass defenses and one forced fumble.

The Commanders waived Savage on Thursday. Savage was a healthy scratch for the Commanders' Week 13 loss to the Broncos. The organization granted the safety's request for release Thursday, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports. Savage will now go on waivers and will become a free agent if he goes unclaimed.

Savage signed a one-year deal with the Commanders on Monday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. The Maryland product was cut by the Jaguars on Sep. 16 after recording just one solo tackle across the team's first two games. However, he was quickly picked up by Washington, where injuries to Will Harris (leg) and Percy Butler (hip) will likely allow him to contribute immediately. Savage is projected to serve as one of the Commanders' top reserve safeties for the remainder of the season.

The Jaguars released Savage on Tuesday. Savage logged just one solo tackle through the first two games of the regular season while serving in a rotational role at safety behind Eric Murray and Andrew Wingard. Savage will explore his next options and should receive interest from teams looking to add veteran depth to the secondary.

Savage recorded 51 total tackles and six passes defended, including one interception, over 13 games in 2024. The first-year Jaguar started all 13 games he appeared in this season, playing more than 90 percent of the team's defensive snaps in eight contests. However, Savage tallied the same amount of total tackles as he did in 2023 with the Packers, despite playing 190 more defensive snaps and appearing in three more games in 2024. The Maryland product showed flashes of brilliance, nonetheless, posting the most passes defended since his 2021 campaign. Savage is expected to remain one of Jacksonville's starting safeties in 2025, having signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal with the team last offseason.
