Murray (concussion) has been ruled out of Sunday's contest against the Packers, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. Murray was sandwiched by a pair of Green Bay defenders while going to the ground in the first quarter, drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty in the process. He immediately was under evaluation for a head injury before the Vikings deemed him unable to return. Carson Wentz took over under center for Murray, while J.J. McCarthy's status as the emergency third quarterback means he could make an appearance if Wentz also leaves with an injury.

Murray is undergoing a concussion evaluation after taking a hard hit in Sunday's Week 1 matchup versus the Packers. Murray was dealt a blow to the head by Javon Bullard on a play that drew an unnecessary roughness penalty. The Vikings quarterback immediately went to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. Carson Wentz replaced Murray behind center for Minnesota and will direct the Vikings' offense moving forward if Murray is unable to return.

I'm excited to see Murray in his Minnesota debut, and this should be a favorable matchup against the Packers with Micah Parsons (knee) out. Including the Week 15 game against Denver when he was injured, two of four quarterbacks against Green Bay without Parsons each scored at least 25 Fantasy points (Bo Nix and Caleb Williams). The two who didn't reach that total were Tyler Huntley and the combination of J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer. Murray could have some growing pains as he continues to learn Kevin O'Connell's offense, but I'm willing to trust him as a low-end starter in Week 1.

The Vikings have named Murray their starting quarterback, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The former Cardinal had been competing with J.J. McCarthy for the assignment, but Murray will become the team's fourth Week 1 starter in the last four years. McCarthy is slated to serve as the top backup, while Murray will helm an offense that includes the talented pass-catching nucleus of wideouts Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, as well as tight end T.J. Hockenson.

Murray impressed at Wednesday's practice, connecting on multiple deep passes and showing off his speed on scrambles, according to SI.com's Jason Harmon. The report suggests Murray may be putting some distance between himself and J.J. McCarthy, who reportedly has struggled at training camp while sharing the first-team reps. Reports on Murray also hadn't been great, at least until Wednesday, but he seems to be trending in the right direction, taking the lion's share of the snaps with the starters during Wednesday's practice, per The Minneapolis Star Tribune. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said in July that he has a timeline in place to name his Week 1 starting QB, but he didn't share that timeline with the media.
