Ehlinger won a spot on Indianapolis' 53-man roster to begin the regular season. He'll remain on the active roster as the third quarterback, but may not see any regular-season action if Anthony Richardson and Joe Flacco are healthy.

Ehlinger is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams with a right shoulder injury. Ehlinger was a limited practice participant Thursday and didn't practice Friday, suggesting that he suffered the injury during the week. If available, Ehlinger would be called upon Sunday only if both Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew get injured. Richardson has been cleared to start after missing the Colts' Week 3 win over the Ravens while recovering from a concussion.

Ehlinger (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Texans, but he'll dress and serve as the Colts' emergency quarterback. Ehlinger doesn't count against the 53-man roster but will be available if Anthony Richardson and Gardner Minshew are forced out of the game. Ehlinger appeared in four games for Indianapolis last year and completed 63 percent of his passes for 573 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Ehlinger replaced an injured Nick Foles (ribs) to open the second half of the Colts' 38-10 loss to the Giants on Sunday and completed nine of 14 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also rushed once for 12 yards. The second-year signal-caller's final numbers were respectable and mistake-free, and he even facilitated Indianapolis' only touchdown of the afternoon with a six-yard pass to Michael Pittman late in the third quarter. Ehlinger could be in line for his third start of the season in a Week 18 home matchup against the Texans if Foles is unable to suit up and interim head coach Jeff Saturday opts to keep Matt Ryan as a backup.

Ehlinger is inactive for Sunday night's game against the Cowboys. With Ehlinger inactive versus Dallas, Nick Foles is in line to serve as the Colts' No. 2 QB in Week 13 behind Matt Ryan.
