The Steelers elevated Carpenter from the practice squad Saturday, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. This is the third time Carpenter has been called up from the practice squad. This means that the Steelers will have to sign him to the active roster if the team wishes to play him the rest of the season. Carpenter has played 21 snaps on special teams in two games and has one tackle.

Carpenter (undisclosed) was placed on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Carpenter will open camp on the sidelines as he nurses an undisclosed injury, but he will be eligible to return to practice and play at any point this preseason. Once healthy, the 24-year-old is expected to fill a rotational interior linebacker spot in 2023.

Carpenter has been practicing as an interior linebacker ahead of the 2023 season, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports. Head coach Matt LaFleur indicated Tuesday that Carpenter's shift from safety has been underway for a while, saying he's "been working [at linebacker] all offseason". At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, the 24-year-old may be better suited for his new role. As a safety during his rookie season in 2022, Carpenter logged just 16 snaps on defense while mostly operating as a special-teams option, but that could change in his sophomore campaign.

Carpenter (abdomen) is active for Sunday's game against the Giants in London, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports. The rookie seventh-round pick made his NFL debut in last week's overtime win over the Patriots, playing six snaps on special teams. He picked up an abdominal injury coming out of that contest and was limited in practice throughout the week, but he'll be ready to go for the matchup with the Giants. Expect Carpenter to continue to see most of his opportunities on the Packers' coverage units.

The Packers selected Brown in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 228th overall. Carpenter becomes the third linebacker to be drafted by the Packers thus far. Given the Packers' dismal special teams last season, the Georgia Tech product could be tasked with filling an important role within the team's 53-man roster as a flexible and fluid athlete, but it's unlikely he'll emerge as a primary starter given his small stature (6-foot-2, 230 pounds).
