• Saints' Travis Etienne: Chance to practice in Week 9

  2D ago • By RotoWire

Head coach Kellen Moore said that Etienne (hamstring) will be evaluated Monday before the Saints make a determination whether he practices this week, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. Sidelined since he sustained a left hamstring strain in a Sept. 27 loss to the Raiders, Etienne will be eligible to play coming out of the Saints' Week 8 bye now that he's missed the required four games while on injured reserve. If Etienne looks good during his upcoming evaluation, he could have his 21-day practice window opened Wednesday, when the Saints will begin prepping for Sunday's game against the Browns. Given the time that he's missed, Etienne might need to practice fully at some point this week for the Saints to feel comfortable activating him after a minimum-length stint on IR.

The Saints are placing Etienne (hamstring) on injured reserve, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Etienne dealt with a hamstring injury during Week 3 prep and then aggravated the issue this past Sunday against the Raiders, leading to head coach Kellen Moore telling Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football on Monday that the running back was expected to miss some time. With his placement on IR, Etienne will sit out at least the next four games, meaning his next chance for game action is Sunday, Nov. 8 versus the Browns. In the meantime, Alvin Kamara figures to take on the lead role in the Saints backfield, but Kendre Miller and CJ Donaldson also are on hand for RB reps.

Etienne (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Raiders. Etienne went to the locker room in the second half due to an injury, and the reason for his exit has now been revealed. This injury could be an aggravation of the hamstring injury that bothered Etienne in practice leading up to the game. Alvin Kamara, CJ Donaldson and Kendre Miller are the available options in the backfield for New Orleans while Etienne is unavailable.

Etienne (undisclosed) went to the locker room in the second half of Sunday's game against the Raiders, Ross Jackson of LouisianaSports.net reports. Etienne was favoring one of his legs after a 16-yard run in the second half and went to the locker room shortly after going into the injury tent. It's unclear if this injury is connected to the hamstring injury that limited Etienne's practice participation during the week leading up to Sunday's game. Etienne had 13 carries for 57 yards and caught both of his targets for 13 yards prior to getting hurt. His return can be considered questionable, with Alvin Kamara next in line for touches out of the backfield.

Head coach Kellen Moore said Friday that Etienne (hamstring) has been removed from the Saints' injury report and is "available and ready to go" for Sunday's game versus the Raiders. Etienne kicked off Week 3 prep with back-to-back limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday, but Moore's comments Friday indicate those restrictions likely were for maintenance purposes. In any case, Etienne has hovered between 50 and 60 percent of the offensive snaps in his first two appearances as a Saint, turning 26 touches into 109 yards from scrimmage and no TDs. He'll share the backfield with Alvin Kamara and CJ Donaldson this weekend.
