  • Saints' Chase Young: Passes physical
    By RotoWire

Young (neck) passed his physical Tuesday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN reports. Young should officially be good to go for practice tomorrow despite having been placed on the active/PUP list last Thursday. The 2020 first-round pick will likely serve as a rotational pass rusher behind Cameron Jordan (ankle) and Carl Granderson after signing with the team this offseason.

  • Young's one-year contract with the Saints gives New Orleans protection in the event he struggles to recover from his upcoming neck surgery or otherwise misses time, with 61 percent of the money in the deal coming from per-game roster bonuses, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Young has a $5.01 million base salary and can earn an additional $7.99 million in per-game roster bonuses, with the former guaranteed at signing and the latter only guaranteed if he's released. In other words, he'll miss out on around $470,000 for each game he's on the roster but inactive. Albert Breer of SI.com reports that scans on Young's neck led to reduced interest in free agency, due to a condition that was first discovered last summer after he suffered a stinger in the preseason. He ended up playing seven games for the Commanders, and then 12 post-trade for the 49ers (including playoffs), recording 7.5 sacks in the regular season and an additional sack during the postseason. Young was the No. 2 overall pick and Defensive Rookie of the Year back in 2020, but he suffered a severe knee injury the following season and managed only 1.5 sacks in 12 appearances between 2021 and 2022. He's scheduled for surgery Thursday and expected to be healthy for training camp, at which point the Saints likely will use him off the bench behind starting defensive ends Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson.

  • The Saints and Young agreed to a contract Monday. According to Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, Young's new deal will be for one year. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, Young earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors to kick off his career, but his next two seasons were derailed by injuries, and he split 2023 between the Commanders and 49ers. With 16.5 sacks in 43 games in his first four campaigns, he'll be a part of a New Orleans pass rush that features Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson.

  • Young compiled two tackles (two solo), including a sack, during San Francisco's 27-14 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. Young managed to record his first sack with the 49ers on Sunday, and he now has 5.0 sacks total through seven games this season. The 2020 first-round pick will now look to increase his totals during Thursday's matchup with the Seahawks.

  • 49ers' Chase Young: Heading to Bay Area
    By RotoWire

The Commanders traded Young to the 49ers on Tuesday in exchange for a 2024 third-round draft pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. San Francisco has been seeking out a bookend to reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, and it appears to have found one in Young, who was the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Both are Ohio State products, and Young seemingly has bounced back after back-to-back subpar and injury-riddled campaigns with five sacks in seven games so far this season. With the 49ers on bye Week 9, Young will have plenty of time to get up to speed with his new team before its next game Nov. 12 in Jacksonville.
