Rams head coach Sean McVay said Monday that Lake is recovering well from Nov. 18 surgery to address an elbow injury, but the defensive back is considered unlikely to return from injured reserve before the end of the regular season, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. "He's been around, he's been in good spirits," McVay said of Lake. "The hope is, if you earn the right to play afterwards, then he'll get a chance to be able to join us then. I don't know if the regular season is realistic for him, but if we are able to earn the right to be able to play games after the 17 w''re guaranteed, I think there's a chance he'll be back for those." The NFL's wild-card round will kick off Jan. 10, but if the 9-3 Rams are able to secure a No. 1 seed, Lake would have additional time to heal before potentially being available for the divisional round. With Lake having missed the Rams' last two games, Cobie Durant and Josh Wallace have picked up more reps at slot cornerback. Lake tallied a sack, 61 tackles, 10 pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 10 games prior to being shut down with the elbow injury.

Lake (elbow) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Lake underwent a procedure on his elbow Tuesday and will now be sidelined for at least the next four games. Earlier reports suggest he could miss the rest of the regular season but would likely be ready to return for a postseason run. Josh Wallace appears most likely to replace Lake as the Rams' primary slot corner.

Lake underwent surgery Tuesday to repair an elbow injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Rapoport also noted that Lake could return at some point in the playoffs, suggesting that he'll likely be sidelined for the remainder of the regular season. The 26-year-old will likely be placed on injured reserve in the near future, and Josh Wallace is expected to operate as Los Angeles' top slot corner.

Lake tallied 11 tackles (eight solo) during the Rams' 42-26 win over the 49ers on Sunday. Lake once again played every single defensive snap, and his 11 stops were tied with Nate Landman and Omar Speights for most on the Rams. Lake is now up to 58 combined tackles through nine regular-season games, and he is on pace to break 100-plus tackles for a second consecutive year.

Lake tallied six tackles (one solo), an interception and a fumble recovery during the Rams' 17-3 win over the Ravens on Sunday. Lake logged his first interception of the season late in the first quarter, when he jumped in front of a Cooper Rush pass intended for Zay Flowers. Lake also jumped on a football that was jarred loose from Flowers' hands by Jared Verse early in the third quarter, which led to an eight-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford to Tyler Higbee two plays later. Lake has played every defensive snap through six regular-season games and is up to 39 tackles (20 solo) and seven pass defenses on the year.
