Coach Kyle Shanahan announced Friday that Brandon Allen will be the starting quarterback for Week 12. GM John Lynch downplayed Purdy's quick departure from Thursday's practice, but Shanahan acknowledged Friday afternoon that things didn't go well during the session, noting that the level of pain in Purdy's right shoulder surprised both team and player (per David Lombardi of SFStandard.com). Shanahan hasn't commented on expectations for Purdy beyond this weekend, with the next chance to play being a Week 13 contest at Buffalo on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Purdy was very limited Wednesday, threw only a few passes Thursday and may be missing practice Friday. The 49ers seem to be hoping rest will do the trick, but GM John Lynch acknowledged to Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News on Friday morning that the quarterback's Week 12 status is "tenuous" even after MRI results suggested he doesn't have a serious injury. Purdy injured his throwing shoulder during Sunday's loss to the Seahawks and now seems to be dealing with considerable soreness/discomfort.

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday that he was "hopeful" the QB would play, following Purdy doing a bit more Thursday than he did Wednesday. He didn't throw many passes Thursday before going inside to do rehab work, with Lynch telling reporters afterward that Purdy's light workload was planned all along (rather than being a response to pain/discomfort). QB Brandon Allen is expected to start Sunday's game at Green Bay if Purdy doesn't play.

After not attempting any passes at Wednesday's session due to a sore right shoulder, Purdy was spotted throwing during warmups Thursday before leaving the field at the start of the third period, according to David Lombardi of SFStandard.com. Purdy's ensuing listing on the 49ers' injury report remained limited, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. In addition to the capped activity, Purdy didn't speak to the media Thursday like he normally would, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. Purdy seems destined to be listed as questionable heading into the weekend, which will become known when San Francisco posts its final practice report of the week Friday. Brandon Allen is the No. 2 QB on the team's active roster.

  Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Purdy is day-to-day due to a sore right shoulder, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Purdy had a season-low 159 yards on 21-for-28 passing during Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Seahawks, tossing a touchdown to WR Jauan Jennings but also throwing his eighth interception of the season. A health concern may now result in some practice limitations when the 49ers begin Week 12 prep Wednesday, but Shanahan calling him day-to-day indicates Purdy likely will be good to go this coming Sunday at Green Bay.
