  • Thompson-Robinson completed 20 of 34 passes for 157 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions while adding nine carries for 49 yards in the Browns' 24-6 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. He also fumbled once but recovered. Thompson-Robinson and the Browns' offense as a whole got a big boost on the first play from scrimmage when Jerome Ford ripped off a 66-yard run up the gut of the Bengals' defense. However, in a sign of what type of day it would be for Cleveland, D'Onta Foreman subsequently fumbled at the goal line on that possession and Thompson-Robinson could only help his team to 10 net offensive yards the rest of the first half. The second-year signal-caller then short-circuited consecutive third-quarter drives with interceptions, the first of which came in the end zone. Thompson-Robinson did make plenty of positive plays with his legs and displayed decent command of the offense by connecting with six different targets, but he'll need to eliminate the mistakes to give his team a better chance in a Week 17 home matchup against the Dolphins, a game that head coach Kevin Stefanski committed to having Thompson-Robinson start, per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, provided the minor calf issue the young quarterback suffered on the game's opening drive doesn't prevent him from doing so.

  • Thompson-Robinson confirmed Tuesday that he's been named the Browns' starting quarterback for Sunday's game in Cincinnati, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports. "Obviously excited for the opportunity," Thompson-Robinson said, while speaking to media at a charity event. "Still going to prepare and study the same way I do every week, and looking to go out there and get a win." Head coach Kevin Stefanski will presumably address the change at quarterback when he speaks to the media Wednesday, but the Browns will turn the offense over to Thompson-Robinson after Jameis Winston went 2-5 over seven starts and threw eight interceptions over the last three games alone. Thompson-Robinson, who came on for the final two possessions of Sunday's 21-7 loss to Kansas City, has made 12 career appearances (three starts) in two seasons, rushing 20 times for 125 yards and completing 51.4 percent of his passes for 540 yards, one touchdown and seven interceptions. While Thompson-Robinson brings more mobility to the table, he hasn't shown much aptitude as a passer, and the Browns could opt for a more conservative, run-heavy game plan as a result. Even in a favorable matchup against a Bengals defense that has routinely surrendered big yardage and point totals all season, Thompson-Robinson still represents a low-end fantasy option at quarterback.

  • Thompson-Robinson is expected to replace Jameis Winston as the Browns' starting quarterback in Sunday's game against the Bengals, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com reports. Though Winston initially breathed life into a stagnant Cleveland passing attack when he took over for the injured Deshaun Watson (Achilles) as the team's starter in Week 8, he's also been mistake-prone. After throwing a trio of interceptions -- including two in the end zone -- in Sunday's 21-7 loss to Kansas City, Winston was pulled from the game midway through the fourth quarter in favor of Thompson-Robinson, who completed four of nine pass attempts for 18 yards and an interception to go with 16 yards on three carries during the Browns' final two possessions. With a 1:7 TD:INT over 12 career appearances (three starts) through two seasons in the league, Thompson-Robinson hasn't been immune to sloppy play either, but the 3-11 Browns are presumably eager to take a longer look at the 25-year-old as the season winds down. While he brings much more rushing upside to the table than Winston, Thompson-Robinson likely represents a major downgrade for the Cleveland passing game and for pass catchers such as Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore and David Njoku (hamstring).

  • Thompson-Robinson went 0-for-1 in Sunday's 35-14 loss to New Orleans in Week 11. Thompson-Robinson entered the game for Cleveland's final drive, which was a three-and-out with an incomplete pass and two runs. Starter Jameis Winston threw for 395 yards and woke up a dormant passing offense for the second time in three weeks. That suggests Winston will stay on as the starter for now, but the organization may want to get a fuller look at Thompson-Robinson before this disappointing season ends.

  • Thompson-Robinson will remain the Browns' backup quarterback Sunday against the Saints after head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Monday that Jameis Winston will remain the team's starter, Kelsey Russo of the team's official site. Winston, who started the last two games following the season-ending injury to Deshaun Watson (Achilles), will get the nod once again in Week 11, but his leash may not be long. He threw three interceptions and was sacked six times in a Week 9 loss to the Chargers, and Stefanski mentioned keeping turnovers in check being a point of emphasis as the Browns return from a Week 10 bye. With Watson's long-term future with the Browns murky at best and Winston scheduled for free agency this offseason, Cleveland may want to get an extended look at Thompson-Robinson at some point later on this season. Through his first nine NFL appearances over two seasons, Thompson-Robinson has completed 71 of 136 pass attempts (52.2 percent) for 522 yards (3.8 YPA), one touchdown and six interceptions while carrying 17 times for 109 yards.
