As training camp approaches, Mason is slated to reclaim a key role in a Minnesota backfield that also includes Aaron Jones and rookie sixth-rounder Demond Claiborne, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports. Though the Vikings have yet to declare a starting QB between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy, there's continuity elsewhere in the offense, with the team's top two RBs, WRs and TEs from last year back for another campaign. Mason is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he recorded 758 yards and six TDs on 159 carries to go along with 14 catches for 51 yards in 16 contests, while Jones carried the ball 132 times for 548 yards and two touchdowns, adding 28 catches (on 41 targets) for 199 yards and a score in 12 games. With Mason and Jones both still around, another RB timeshare -- one that favors Jones in PPR formats -- is in the making for 2026, while Claiborne is a candidate to mix in on passing downs.

Mason carried the ball 14 times for 94 yards in Sunday's 16-3 win over the Packers. With Aaron Jones (hip) ruled out for the Vikings' regular-season finale, Mason led the backfield with his best yardage total since Week 3. Fullback C.J. Ham vultured a one-yard TD run in the second quarter, however. Mason finishes his first season in Minnesota with 758 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 159 carries, and with both Jones and Mason on affordable contracts in 2026, the duo will likely remain in some form of timeshare next season.

Mason (ankle) practiced fully Thursday. Mason was knocked out on the first possession of a Week 16 win at the Giants due to an ankle injury that sidelined him last Thursday against the Lions, He's now progressed from limited Wednesday to all activity one day later, while fellow RB Aaron Jones (hip) has yet to practice this week. If Jones is inhibited or sidelined Sunday versus the Packers, Mason could be in line for a leading role Week 18.

Mason (ankle) was a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice. While the Vikings estimated Mason as a non-participant on their first two Week 17 injury reports, the 26-year-old hasn't been ruled out from playing Thursday against the Lions, although he's viewed as a long shot to suit up, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. Assuming Mason is formally ruled out following the release of Wednesday's injury report, Aaron Jones would be in line to lead the Minnesota backfield, provided he can move past the ankle injury that rendered him a limited participant in Tuesday's walk-through.

Mason suffered an ankle injury during Sunday's game at the Giants. Both Mason and fellow RB Aaron Jones injured their ankles in the first quarter of Week 16 action, but while Mason was spotted getting on a cart, per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Jones was jogging on the sideline, according to Lewis. Zavier Scott took over the Vikings backfield to begin their second possession of the contest.
