  • Chiefs' Rashee Rice: Top DFS Play
    By Heath Cummings

Rice is priced outside of the top 12 wide receivers this week, but projects as my number six wide receiver on the slate. He's averaging 17.9 FPPG on the year and I expect the Isiah Pacheco injury increases his total targets as the Chiefs use short targets to make up for what they lose in the run game.

  • Rice caught five of six targets for 75 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Bengals. Most of Rice's production came on a 44-yard touchdown reception down the sideline in the second quarter. He had a 21-yard catch on fourth down erased by a penalty on the game's final possession, but Rice drew a 29-yard pass interference call on the next play to set up Harrison Butker's game-winning 51-yard field goal. Heading into a Week 3 trip to Atlanta for SNF, Rice is the clear top option in a Chiefs wide receiver room that will be without Hollywood Brown (shoulder) for the rest of the regular season.

  • Rice secured seven of nine targets for 103 yards in the Chiefs' 27-20 win over the Ravens on Thursday night. Rice led the Chiefs across the board in receptions, receiving yards and targets during the hard-fought season-opening battle. The second-year receiver looked every bit the part of the No. 1 receiver he evolved into as a rookie, and he brought in catches of 11, 16, 19 and 33 yards during the night. Rice looked explosive on each reception and appears well-equipped to build on his strong start against the Bengals in a Week 2 home matchup on Sunday, Sept. 15.

  • Rice will lead Kansas City's receiving corps Thursday against the Ravens, while teammate Marquise Brown (shoulder) has been ruled out. Rice's fantasy stock tumbled after an alleged hit-and-run incident in March led to a slew of legal charges, but he's avoided the commissioner's exempt list and may even avoid a league suspension until 2025. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes shouldn't lack for capable pass catchers even with Brown out of the lineup for a week or two, as the Chiefs also have rookie wideout Xavier Worthy and veteran tight end Travis Kelce available. Nate Taylor of The Athletic suggests that the team expects Rice to have more of an impact on deep and intermediate routes this season, after his rookie-year success was largely built on catching short passes and gaining yards after the catch.

  • Rice is not expected to begin the regular season on the commissioner's exempt list, and the NFL will instead make a decision on his status after his legal process has concluded, Mark Maske of The Washington Post reports. Rice seems unlikely to entirely avoid a suspension for his off-field problems this offseason, but the league isn't expected to intervene until the legal situation pays itself out, which could occur later this year or potentially even be delayed until 2025. He faces eight felony charges in connection with a high-speed, multi-car hit-and-run accident that occurred March 30 in Dallas, including charges of aggravated assault, collision involving serious bodily injury and collision involving injury. As long as Rice is eligible to play, he'll be locked in as a top target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes and will be in prime position to build off his highly successful rookie season, but at some point, it seems all but guaranteed that he'll face a multi-game suspension. The Chiefs brought in wideouts Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Xavier Worthy to join Rice and tight end Travis Kelce atop the receiving corps, but neither seem especially likely to intrude on Rice's workload, as he primarily operates from the slot and on short routes.
