  Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said that Thomas (shoulder) was a "full go" at Tuesday's practice, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports. Thomas injured his shoulder in a joint practice with the Buccaneers one week earlier, but he avoided a major scare and was back on the field a few days later while sporting a no-contact jersey. The wideout was seemingly able to shed that jersey and take some contact during Tuesday's session, so he looks like he'll be in the clear for the Jaguars' Sept. 13 season opener versus the Browns.

  Thomas (shoulder) was present on the field for Wednesday's joint practice with the Buccaneers while sporting a no-contact jersey, John Shipley of SI.com reports. Thomas made an early exit Tuesday for the first of two joint practices after falling on his shoulder while catching a touchdown pass in red-zone drills. Head coach Liam Coen said afterward that Thomas was "alright," though Coen indicated that the Jaguars would likely err on the side of caution and keep the receiver out for Friday's preseason finale versus Tampa Bay. Thomas' return to the field in a day later -- even in what appears to be a limited capacity -- is a good sign that he'll be ready to go for the Jaguars' Sept. 13 season opener versus the Browns.

  The Jaguars envision Thomas serving as the 'X' receiver in their offense during the upcoming season, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. After an outstanding rookie campaign in which he put up a 87-1,282-10 receiving line on 133 targets over 17 contests, Thomas saw his production crater in Year 2 (48-707-2 line in 14 games). Though the Jacksonville offense took a step forward as a whole under first-year head coach Liam Coen, Thomas ended up sacrificing heavy target volume to Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington, who emerged as trusted weapons underneath and in the intermediate area for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Wolfe notes that while the Jaguars value Thomas "a ton" and have no desire to trade him, the coaching staff learned last season that the wideout's strengths lie in using his blazing speed to run deep routes on the perimeter rather than taking contact on routes in the middle and shorter areas of the field. While that sort of role typically doesn't lend itself to consistently heavy target counts week to week, it's not one that's completely bereft of fantasy value. Wolfe cites Brandin Cooks -- whose tenure with the Rams overlapped with Coen's time as an assistant for the team -- as a player in a similar mold as Thomas who was able to turn in productive seasons on modest target volume while primarily serving as a vertical threat.

  Thomas has demonstrated increased chemistry with quarterback Trevor Lawrence during spring practices, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports. Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said during OTAs the coaching staff is "trying to get a true connection" established between Thomas and Lawrence the tandem "didn't quite have last spring or training camp." Coen said he's been "very pleased" with how Thomas approached the offseason, while Lawrence said he and the wideout have "put a lot of work in throughout all spring really of just trying to get the timing down, the chemistry, [...] and it's starting to pay off." As a rookie, the 2024 first-rounder burst onto the scene with a 87-1,282-10 line, though much of that came with then-backup Mac Jones under center. Thomas then took a notable step back in 2025, tallying 48-707-2 across 14 regular-season appearances. If Thomas is indeed able to improve his rapport with Lawrence and clean up the issues with avoided contact and dropped passes that plagued him last year, he could still boast the highest upside of any of Jacksonville's pass catchers, though Coen's willingness to spread the ball around implies hefty target competition.
