The Commanders waived Ahmed on Tuesday. Ahmed signed with the Commanders back in June and spent time competing with Riley Patterson at placekicker in training camp, but he's now been cut to make room for veteran wideout Martavis Bryant. The last time Ahmed logged NFL action was 2022, when he played one game with the Packers.

Ahmed signed a contract with the Commanders on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports. Ahmed made one NFL appearance with the Packers in 2022 and was last with Birmingham of the UFL, where he made 10 of his 13 attempted field goals. He is currently the one kicker on the Commanders roster after the team released Brandon McManus on Sunday.

Ahmed (groin) reverted to the Packers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Ahmed was elevated from the practice squad for the second time this season ahead of Sunday's blowout win over Minnesota. The 27-year-old never actually saw the field despite being active, and he was eventually designated questionable to return to the contest with a groin injury. The nature of this issue is still unclear, but Ahmed could be in line for his last eligible practice-squad elevation in Green Bay's crucial Week 18 contest versus Detroit.

After joining the Packers' practice squad ahead of Week 1, Ahmed is set to potentially make his NFL debut in Week 10. As long as Mason Crosby is healthy though, Ahmed would likely be limited to work on kickoffs.
