Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that Johnson (foot) underwent surgery Tuesday to address a Lisfranc injury, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports. New York placed Johnson on injured reserve Monday, but the extent of his foot injury wasn't known. With surgery deemed necessary, Johnson can officially be ruled out for the rest of the season, but the 23-year-old could be ready to go for the start of the Giants' offseason program in the spring. After Darren Waller retired over the summer, the rookie fourth-round selection took over as the Giants' No. 1 tight end and finished his season with 29 catches on 43 targets for 331 yards and one touchdown.

Johnson may miss the rest of the season after injuring his foot during Thursday's loss at Dallas, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports. Coach Brian Daboll informed reporters Friday morning, after Johnson took 89 percent of snaps and caught each of his five targets for a career-high 54 yards during a 27-20 loss to Dallas on Thursday. It was his fifth straight game with at least four targets, three catches and 35 receiving yards, making the rookie fourth-round pick one of the few positives for the New York offense recently. The Giants will be left with Daniel Bellinger, Chris Manhertz and recent addition Greg Dulcich as their tight ends if/when Johnson's rookie season is confirmed to be ending early.

Johnson reeled in all five of his targets for 54 yards during Thursday's 27-20 loss in Dallas. For a third consecutive week of game prep, Johnson endured practice limitations due to a back injury, but he continues to suit up and handle a consistent role in the Giants' passing game, despite different signal-callers directing the offense. Drew Lock got the call in place of Tommy DeVito (forearm) this week, and while the former didn't look his way until the 4:23 mark of the third quarter, Johnson finished second on the team in catches and receiving yards (both behind rookie Malik Nabers) and third in targets (behind Nabers and Darius Slayton). Johnson's next opportunity to produce is Sunday, Dec. 8 versus the Saints, but who will be under center remains to be seen.

Johnson (back) was estimated as a limited participant in Monday's walkthrough, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Johnson has been battling the back issue for a couple weeks, but he's continued to play through it. He's coming off of a 3-39-0 line on six targets against Tampa Bay this past Sunday. Johnson and the Giants have a Thanksgiving Day date with the Cowboys on Thursday.

Johnson (back) practiced in full Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Johnson logged his first uncapped session since Week 9 prep as he tended to a back injury, but he still suited up in New York's last game Week 10 against the Panthers in Munich, Germany, gathering in four of six targets for 37 yards. The team may be welcoming back WR Darius Slayton (concussion) to the lineup Sunday versus the Buccaneers, which likely would move Johnson down the pecking order among Giants pass catchers.
